Effect of "work to rule" for cockpit crew?

It seems like every time I have a flight scheduled on CX, someone threatens industrial action...

I can imagine the effect of work to rule in the cabin, what are the practical implications in the cockpit?

delays. not taking short cuts

the main effect of contract compliance would be not enough pilots available to crew flights as CX does not have nearly enough at present without relying on volunteers to work their days off

that is the crux of their argument
they do not volunteer
they are called in to work

When is this in effect?

They do volunteer on guaranteed days off, and even on annual leave. There's no requirement to be in contact with crewing other than on standby days or right after a flight. If one does answer the phone, they still have the option of saying 'no' to a flight during guaranteed days off or annual leave.

CX will most likely try to work around this by rostering pilots for minimum days off -- replacing what would normally be guaranteed days off with reserve days.

It's the pilot group trying to show the company that they rely on goodwill, despite the company not showing it themselves; It's the pilot group wanting the same basic inflationary pay raise given to all other staff. Not a cut, year on year, on base pay.

Nachosdelux: There is no 'in effect' date. The pilot group hasn't even agreed to begin contract compliance yet. The "possibility" has been in the air for almost a year now, with the company dragging out negotiations. Although, it could happen at any time if talks between the two groups fail. It's simply SCMP scaremongering people (most likely with the help of company released press releases).

Thanks. I have 3 CX flights in the next week.

the pilots have been in negotiations continuously for a decade or so it seems now since around when CX decide to unceremoniously fire 49 of them to try and stifle any organisation amongst the pilots (and pretty much got away with it).

i would be more concerned about cabin crew industrial action than pilots to be honest as they are more organized and have the press and public on their side - fortunately theyve already won their industrial action this round.
