Differences between transpac J and F?
 
Hi

What are some differences between J and F on CX?
Is it worth footing the extra miles to get from J to F?
Thinking SFO/LAX/SEA to SIN.

a few things:

1.) just an fyi, CX doesn't fly to SEA. So it sounds like your choices for CX metal are SFO/LAX (or perhaps YVR?) to SIN. One of the YVR flights daily has F.

2.) You might want to do some searching around here first. There are differences - some might say minor, others like me say major - between J and F. They've been debated endlessly on this thread...your question touches on perhaps the most-discussed Cathay FT forum topics, including a few identical threads! For tangential info check out the menu threads, meals, debates between 747 and 777 (both discuss a lot about J vs F differences), F on 777 vs 747, etc. The FT search function isn't as handy as google but if you fiddle with it enough using the advanced function you'll get what you're looking for.

To be honest, the only person who can answer that question is you.

What value do you put on your miles? What enhancements in service are enough for you to say that you received good value for those miles?

If you have never flown CX F, then my suggestion is, "go for it." It can be a hard redemption to snag if you're not MPO Gold or Diamond, but if you do luck out, it's a lovely way to fly.

Also depends on what mileage program you are using to redeem. If you are using AA, the difference is minimal so of course go for F. If you are using other programs then you are spending a lot more miles for F. Also you are only getting F from SFO/LAX - HKG. HKG-SIN doesn't have F. If they do, it might get switched.

Planning to use AS miles to redeem one way.
Never been on CX J or F so it would be my first time.

I also have no status with AS or Oneworld carriers.

You can try F one way and J the other, then you'll be able to compare the two so you know how to set your expectations for the future. If you do this, fly J first and then F :)

CX J is pretty good especially with their new seats.

The main difference between J & F all comes down to the details like:
1) More space in the seat itself
2) Comforter and down mattress pad set by attendant for sleeping
3) Pyjamas
4) Food comes separately plated in F, in J they come in a tray
5) When departing from HK, the CX F lounges have an edge such as private cabanas and ordering from a menu for meals. Not much difference between F and J lounges outside HK.

Either way, both are amongst the best in the industry for their respective classes so you'll still enjoy the journey!

I flew TPAC J more than 5 times a year, but I have never been served meal that come in a tray:confused:

I was lucky enough to have been upgraded to F for the 3 legs out of my 4 legs flight in August. I would say that if you get the old F, then hardware wise it is not as NEW as the new J, but bigger in everything. However, if you do get the refurbished F, then it's comparable.

The difference, for me, is mainly the space and the attentiveness of the FAs, and the fact that they would go out of their way to make you feel good and comfortable, even with the ground arrangement if you are transferring.

If I have the miles to burn, then I for sure will go for F instead of J without a blink of an eye;)

On the tray... perhaps the poster meant meal cart?

Yup my mistake, not tray but meal cart would have been the better word. And I might have mistaken the Y+ and J meals, since Y+ do get J mains.

Have done LAX-HKG many times in both F and J on CX. Go for F. The personal attention of the F/A's is worth it!!! Heading to HAN via HKG on CX 897 in 55 days in F and can't wait.

I would say if you have never flown either business or first before, you should go for business. That way you can work your way up, and have something nicer to look forward to in the future.

One more thing to consider: does HKG-SIN have a guaranteed F flight? Last time I looked there was one 77H and one 744 but none of them were convenient for me so you may end up in a J seat on the HKG-SIN & SIN-HKG legs. IMO not a big deal for 4ish hours but you may feel differently.

Its rare. every time i had intra-asia in F, bam a schedule change follows not too long after
