Econ Class S to Class M

Hello,

I purchased an Econ Save (Class S) ticket. I know that it is not eligible for miles upgrade. However, is it possible to pay to upgrade my Econ Save ticket to an Econ class that is eligible? and then use miles to upgrade.

Thanks a lot
KFP

Maybe contact CX or your booking agent to see if you can change your fare class. For me the price diff is $100 plus mileage between a non upgradable vs. an upgradable for each leg via my agent. I've tried to upgrade at the airport and the change in fare class was quoted at $200 plus mileage...this was a few years ago so not sure what has changed.

Good luck!

S class tickets are often non refundable. You will likely find that you can't just pay a fare difference to upgrade the fare class. If you want the higher fare class you will likely forfeit your original ticket and have to buy a new ticket.

could he pay the 'change fee' and change the fare class that way? my guess is that it's a no since the deep discounted fare class don't accrue full mileage? maybe make a plea to state he accidentally booked the wrong fare class?

If the fare allows changes, the change fee is for changes to the flight times, but within the same fare class (based on availability of the fare class at the new times). But it isn't for change of fare class, which means reissuing the ticket. Normally these lower fare classes are attached to fare rules that do not allow refunds, re-issuing, or re-routing. So it's likely you can't even change the flight times.

Having had a closer look at some S class fares, they will probably allow cancellation with payment of a fee. So if you really want to change to M class, you can get a refund of your ticket, less the cancellation fee, and then buy a new M class ticket.
