Seat booking - CX/BA Codeshare

I am a Cathay Marco Polo Gold Member.

I recently booked a flight in Business Class routing SVG-LHR-HKG-SYD-HKG-LHR-SVG with British Airways, where the HKG-SYD-HKG sectors will be operated by CX (with BA flight numbers).

As they were booked via BA and appear on my booking with BA flight numbers, I cannot book seats for the CX operated sectors. I have even tried to bring the booking up on the Marco Polo site, but it did not bring up seat options as it thinks it is a BA flight. I want to earn BA Executive Club points on this flight as it will bump me up to Silver status, so do not want to attach my Marco Polo Gold card to the booking...

Is there a way I can reserve a seat without having to wait until check in or attach my Marco Polo account to the booking?

Thanks!

You almost certainly need to find out the CX record locator and use that on the CX website (or by phone) to do seat allocation. You can call BA or perhaps use checkmytrip.com to see it.

you wouldnt need the record locator if you call cx (tho having it would defo help). from my experience (booking CX flights using Avios) they are the same locator now that CX switched system.

You can use the PNR for the CX flight to manage bookings for the CX flights. You can put your CX sapphire number on your reservation to receive benefits and change them later when you get to the lounge Pre-flight

Code-share PNR is different. Even though CX and BA both use Amadeus, there will be a distinct underlying code-share PNR for CX's operating segment, as the "original" PNR only has the BA marketing segment. This is even the case for CX / KA code-share. However even if OP only has the "original" PNR, CX should be able to find the underlying code-share one if the agent is sophisticated enough. Might require HUACA.
