Accidentally used wrong ffp number
 
Errr...

I helped my dad check in for his flight a few weeks ago. I accidentally put in my MPC number in a force of habit.

My dad doesn't really care (actually he doesn't even have an oneworld ffp). Anyways I noticed the error of my ways because the mileage just showed up on my account.

Will I get in trouble for this or should I notify CX?

I remember putting some random # in, and it will pop up a message saying it doesn't match the account owner's name...

I should have noticed this when my dad called to ask me about TSA Pre Check with a picture of his boarding pass.

Sorry, I forgot to mention this flight is with AA who ironically still haven't credited my flight from two months ago.

My first reaction was I though they finally credited by account, but realized it was wrong when the mileage was very low and it was not to a destination I could have flown to (especially when I was also on a flight from Singapore at the same time).

If you decide to tell CX about the mistake and let them remove the miles, you are more honest than I am.

There is really no difference only one person gets the miles.

I will work if the FFP number does not belong to that of the operating carrier. But for the miles to credit is very rare as I believe they run a matching with the pax name

You are right. But CX does not pay out double miles or club miles so, in that sense, there is no difference.

Honestly I would love to keep these miles because it gets me to Gold sooner than I planned on, but at the same time I don't want to get banned or something over this.

CX system definitely checks for name consistency. Once the travel agent misspelled my boss name on his ticket and his secretary keep complaining the system don't accept his MPC # until she found that the passenger name is wrong (which she never expected as it's just another flight booking for the boss with the same agent as usual)

Yeah, the point is he got miles and sectors for a flight he didn't fly. Now that's a bonus which could be confiscated if it was flagged up to CX.

If I were him I would just keep quiet with a smile. Just hope that CX won't catch this error in the future and remove the miles, something which has happened to people on this board before according to a few posts. If the guy is frugal with Asia Miles maybe he should spend it on an award as soon as possible before CX spots the mistake and attempt to remove the points from his account.

As far as I know, the name cross-checking is applied to members of CX(of course) and QF. Not sure about other programs, but there are definitely many out there that CX's system cannot recognize the name of the FF

of course keep quiet... the more u speak the more fool u make out of urself.

cx cant properly invest in itec thats their problem not urs.

worst come they spot it just say its geuine error... they got to see repeated fraud to confisticate ur miles... once it appears to be a mistake and hopefully they let u go

Damn I'm glad I decided to fly SQ last week and not on CX!

I guess this explains why it's so difficult to get my missing miles after some eight weeks. I figured they would have some kind of tool that they just put in the passenger's name and ffp number, and it should kick back if the passenger boarded the flight or not, etc.

Instead they said they have to email AA and then have a human verify this information in their system. It's entirely possible all AA did was verify the number was valid, matched my last name to my dad's and called it a day.

Anyways thanks for your responses. I will keep quiet for now and if they do want the miles back I'll just give it up. Though I'm wondering if I hit for an upgrade, they giveth and then taketh away miles, do I lose said status upgrade?

(I have no idea what gave me to type that, so please don't judge!)

Usually, unless it's a mass fraud, airlines generally wouldn't notice 1 or 2 mistakes with mileage crediting, especially with partner airlines
