Can't OLCI without booking reference?
Seems CX has changed its OLCI system, in the past I could check-in with Name+Flight No.+Date, now they are asking for Name + Booking ref/Ticket number, unless check-in as member.
This is not a good change for me. I do not always check-in as member because 1) BA redemption ticket or 2)I put my QF FFP number in the booking; and thus i need to check my e-mail to look for the booking reference. To make thing worse, I dont receive confirmation e-mail from BA everytime if I book through call centre - and thus I do not have the booking reference. I hope they change it back. |
Doubt CX will change it back anytime soon. They are one of the few rare airlines that does (/did) not require a booking reference. It's just a matter of personal security.

Your BA reference number is the same as CX because they both use Amadeus.

CX and QF have a system agreement and you should be able to see your CX bookings in your QF account once you've entered your QF FF info, vice versa

BA, QF, CX, AB all use Amadeus. PNR would be the same if flights involve these other carriers.

This change is long overdue, as there was a severe loophole of exposing personal data, as under:
1) If you know when someone is travelling, you can start the OLCI process with name and flight number to get the PNR. 2) You can enter surname+PNR into website like checkmytrip.com and get the e-ticket number and all associated details 3) Using booking number obtained from step 1, and e-ticket number from step 2, you can login to MMB and change anything and also look up passenger information from APIS like passport details, address, etc. This loophole is now closed. |

I know it is the same... but I have to have the booking reference in the first place - which I do not always have due to various reasons. Plus I need to look for the booking reference instead of going to check in directly which is a little bit inconvenience ( i remember which flight i am taking but not the booking reference), but as other have mentioned it may be a security loophole, so perhaps it is a good change. |

Wonder whether anyone actually checked in for someone else (innocent or naughty).
