Manually Adjusting MPC Tier Reset Date?
TWO long haul round trips ex-HKG in J (and even Y for routes like YYZ, JFK) earns you over 30,000 miles, more than what you need to qualify for Silver. Say a traveller will be doing two of these round trips next year, one in April and another in November, however the tier resetting date is on October 1st, meaning that the miles earned on the first trip would've gone to waste by the time the 2nd trip is completed.
Can a quick call to MPC change the date of tier reset so that both trips can be counted towards the total mileage accrual and eventually passing the 30K mark to collect silver? |
my experience no. but i'm unsure if you mean upgrade to silver, or REqualify for silver.
If you are talking "upgrade to silver" this is not an issue because when your April trip gets you over 30k, then they will reset you to 0 and the membership year get readjusted to 30April. If you are talking "requalify" for Silver, different story. say after your trip you get to 35k Asiamiles... u continue that until October, reset... then start fresh. yes your "5k" will get wasted. they won't move the tier reset date to April just for this. Then there are combination of strategy, depending on amount of wastage and your circumstances. 1) do quick run - if you are short by small margin to upgrade to silver, then u can use both J trips for requalification to next year's silver 2) remove MPC number from J trip, and do a credit afterwards. However i'm not sure if April travel can be credited in October... this works if you have immediately pending reset and don't want your miles wasted. |
Thanks for your reply but... neither of these scenarios apply, because it's 2 longhaul trips that get you over 30K, not ONE, I corrected my mistake in the original post. :)
But based on how inflexible MPC appear to be on date resettlements after looking at your response, guess I'll just have to go for the hard way and see if I'll get more flying in between my mileage accrual period. I'm a GR aiming a shot at SL. |
This is probably one of the most legit thread and question on the CX forum lately beside DMs whining about this and that, or newbies starting new threads for some of the most commonly asked questions. Please do report back if you decide to make a call to MPO and ask, it will be a great data point.
If all else failed, what you can do is not book your April longhaul ticket with your MPO status first. You won't miss out on much, if any from your GR status. Then exactly 6 months later, file for a missing mileage. Unless your first trip was taken on April 1st....6 months later, you would already be passed your Oct 1 reset. Only risk is, it might be kind of tight... |
double post, pls delete

I'm a GR aiming a shot at SL. They're the ONLY FFP that does this IMO. At least they can give you an extension to give you extra time to requalify. Try asking same to BA and see what they say ! |

This early June in HKG before my HKG-SFO flight, I called MPO and politely asked if my SL status could be extended for one month, after being put on hold for some time, I got the NO answer. I didn't feel bad or disappointed in any way because my SFO flight would not have re-qual'ed for SL. |

If OP's case is "requalify" for Silver, you may get extended (moving reset date to end of Nov) if my experience is not unique.

a) You already asked for an extension last year or b) Your future/upcoming bookings clearly shows you won't be able to re-qualify for SL or c) all of above? |

No, that's not OP's case. OP is GR wishing to manually adjust his date so he has one full year to qualify for SL.
I wonder if you were deny due to a) You already asked for an extension last year or b) Your future/upcoming bookings clearly shows you won't be able to re-qualify for SL or c) all of above? If this is the case, I can confirm that I have done this before. I extended my cut off date for 2 months to qualify for DM from GO (not requalify, but to qualify). OP, you just need to call MPC to explain your situation. As long as you have the booking for your Nov flight in the system, they should be happy to extend. |

OP isn't asking for a full year extension to qualify SL from what I read. A 2 month extension would be enough for him to qualify (Oct 1st cut off moved to Dec 1st cut off).

But you do raise a good point - many of us has posted here MPO is generally very lenient with providing 1-2 months extensions. However, the risk is 99% of these data points are for qualifying/re-qualifying SL/GO/DM. I don't recall hearing such cases with GR's. Guess all OP can do is, try to call MPO now and see if they would grant a reset first. Which would obviously be the safer route. If not, then try asking for a 2 month extension at the end of next year. |

Sorry, I didn't word it that properly. What I meant was OP wanted a reset, so he can take advantage of a full year to take his bi-annual trips without cut off.

Fall '14 is still far away, I'll report back after my trip for next Nov is booked and I give the call to MPO a try.
