Hi everyone, I am newbie to Cathy. I will fly NYC-HKG-SGN RT in July. My company only reimburse the cheapest economy, and it seems that I will have to book into an N class. The flight is less than 10,000 one-way. I have two questions.
(1) can I use 45,000 Asia miles to upgrade to a business seat if I class is available? (2) Is American Express the only credit card company that can transfer points to Asia miles? Thank you all again! (2) There are other credit cards - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...hk-2015-a.html |
Also I-fare availability has nothing to do with redemption availability.

(1) I class is already business. You probably meant N. You cannot upgrade from N. For a flight with premium economy, you can only upgrade with economy M class or above to premium economy, and cannot upgrade from economy to business.

N-fare also only earns 25% miles on CX if you're crediting to MPO/AM.

Hey guys, I'm currently on the CX 255 flight (12.35am) on 13 April and booked into booking class K for the economy ticket. .
I was looking to upgrade myself with points to PE+ yesterday but now those seats are gone, and appeared only have 3 J seats available on the flight. Flight stats are as follow: F0 A0 J2 C0 D1 I0 W0 R0 E0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 My question is: Is it worth calling MPC now and waitlist for an upgrade to PE+ ? Then if it goes through, will you guys think I'll even have a chance for being upgraded to J if I do obtain the first 10 check-in number (BN or SEC as you call it as it still confuses me the whole time!) and being a CX Gold? Or, I hold on to what I've now, check-in early and hopefully with my status, I might score an upgrade to PE+ ? I want to know my chances of being upgraded. Thank you, I really value all of your advice! |
Does OWS really have an edge over CX Silver? I am debating whether to jump ship to AA's or CX's FFP and my travel patterns will prolly get me with these 2 respective tiers (AA Plat for the former), assuming they don't get significantly harder to achieve. My most frequented routes are HKG-TPE-HKG and HKG-ORD/YYZ/NYC-HKG in E, B or H farecode. Just asking about CX opups.

In case that an op-up is required on a flight, would checking-in in HKG or checking-in in Airport Express stations makes a difference on my chance of getting an upgrade?

Once you received the confirmed for the upgrade, do you have to call MPC to issue the ticket?

Okay thanks, the email was a one liner and didn't give specific instructions.

Not sure if this is the right place but I booked a trip from HKG to ZRH in PEY and have confirmed a miles upgrade to J. When I check the booking record on the web under "manage my booking", the system says I won't earn any miles for the trip. Is this true or would I expect to earn the mileage for the class I booked (PEY)?
|
You still earn PEY miles.

If your miles don't post in a week, submit a request with your original booking class and ticket number (not the one with the upgrade). The system is sometimes too stupid to see that your underlying booking is a paid ticket and it has to be done manually.
I say sometimes because I've had instances where they post, and instances where they require manual intervention. |
Best Bet to fly Business on CX
What's the best move with respect to securing a one-way business class ticket on CX out of LAX to HKG?
1) Buy an R or above economy fare and upgrade at the airport for 20k AsiaMiles? 2) Buy the cheapest economy fare (E) and upgrade at the airport for 20k AsiaMiles? 3) Keep trying to book CS award (wait-listed) even though there are 15+ seats available on that date? My MP status is Green so not gonna get much action from CX, but trying to figure out how to secure a business ticket at least 3-4 days prior to departure (4/25) Thanks! |
