CX Mobile App lets you select emergency row
 
Interesting, I went on CX Mobile App and picked emergency row just to see what happened, I got assigned the seat after the same pop-up message, instead of having to call CX MPO.

Online check in (and manage my booking) has allowed this for a while now.

Are you sure? I've tried it recently and all I got is a pop-up but it won't let me select the seat, and the pop-up specifically said call MPO or CX Reservations for seat assignment.

I'll try again now.

I could select exit row seating using mmb post ticket issued.

If u issued the ticket and have elite status u can select. If no ticket u cant

If you have a CX elite status (in this case you do) you can select those seats online without having to call reservation

Selected exit row seats on-line for my recent 4 flights, weeks before travelling. Of course ticket has to be issued.
