Presenting the CC used to Book?

I booked a flight for my sister JFK-HKG and the confirmation page says:

The physical credit card used to pay for tickets must be presented by the cardholder for verification at check-in, or at a Cathay Pacific Ticketing Office prior to flight departure. The cardholder does not need to book and travel. The carrier reserves the right to deny boarding, or collect a guarantee payment (in cash or from a new credit card) should the cardholder fail to present the physical card originally used for booking transaction.
Does this mean I need to go with her to check in?? This happened once with QR but I was able to send a color copy of my credit card with a signed note that I purchased the ticket and it was authorized. Does CX really "collect a guarantee payment," and if so, what does that even mean? (My sister would have to pay X in case they didn't get paid from my credit card?)

Her flight is 12/31, and I really don't want to cancel my plans to trek out to the airport! Any advice? Thanks!

It's pretty obvious what it means. If you don't want to go on 12/31, or don't want her to run the risk of having to pay on her own CC, then go now to a ticketing office (presumably at the airport, not really sure about NY).

If this happens, they charge your sister's credit card, and refund the amount on your card.

Does anyone have experience with them actually enforcing this rule? I've seen similar rules elsewhere but never enforced...

They always ask me for the card. I always have it so don't know what would happen if I didn't. Stupid rule anyhow, but rules is rules.

Its supposedly for fraud protection by the airline. There's that Visa or Mastercard verified feature to handle this concern but not airline or card holders has this feature enabled.

I'm a bit tolerant on policy if i bought tickets for someone else.

What i don't understand is why i have to still present my credit card when i am buying for my own airline ticket.

They will enforce it.

Only cc issued with the various extra security features like verify by visa and MasterCard Secure and the one by Amex do not need to show card. Amex and MC in Singapore does it by sending a code to your registered mobile phone which you then enter in the transaction process. Many other cards primarily the ones issued in the USA do not have these extra features.

Don't blame CX. Blame your credit card for not having these extra security procedures.

Annoying but common in asia - TG, QF, SQ, CX and BI all do this.

Booking through an online TA solves this issue.

Partially agree that i don't blame the airline exactly for the extra step as I think its a necessary inconvenience if i purchased tickets on someone's behalf.

I partially disagree that airlines don't get the blame as PR (during a trip just this Q2) did request for me to show the credit card even when i purchased the tickets with the verified feature. I had to show the card when i took the flight and then have to show the card for another booking which i purchased on behalf of family members. (they flew at a later date and time so i had the gentleman at the counter note that the card be verified; they did not get asked for the card when its their time to fly).

If you book with a travel agent they do not stipulate this. I have never shown an airline on the planet by credit card when checking in ever nor has my daughter when I paid for her via my TA.

Isn't there a message in MMB saying that this booking needs to have the credit card presented upon checkin if it really needs to be verified?

This is because the travel agent is contracted with the airline to pay the airline. What happens between the TA and the end customer is up to the TA's policies.

Right. So pay the $30 or whatever, gain the emergency service as well and don't sweat this credit card baloney.

Fair enough, but the few OTAs I tried were glitching out and in any case I've already bought the ticket. I guess I will call CX and ask if I can show the card at a ticketing office some point in the next few months before checkin, and if that will suffice...
