quick ways to postpone Asia miles from expiring?

My wife and I have 18000 miles just sitting in each our Asia miles account. We received a notification saying our miles will expire on September 30. How can I postpone my miles from expiring - quick and easy method?

Use it. Unlike Aeronplan miles where all your points have an expiration of one year, but you can "refresh" them with one purchase, your Asia Miles have a shelf life of 4 years. A point that gets into the system either gets used up during those 4 years are expire worthless. Use it or lose it.

As far as I know, there is no way you can extend the expiration date. Just use it

yes you can, with some tricks, for another 3 years... but it costs you 120USD, which is disproportionate to your 18000 miles

You can use your miles to redeem an award and then cancel it - costing 120USD i think. The miles will then be re-deposited back into your AM account with an additional 3-year lifespan.

THanks all. May be I will try to book a award seat.

I've also heard that the ticket is valid for one year if you don't cancel it, but instead reschedule? At least that's what it shows on my redemption ticket:

Tickets for Airline Award travel are valid for 12 months from the date of issue, unless otherwise specified. Tickets are non-transferable. Refund must be made before ticket expiry date (not applicable to partially used tickets) and subject to refund fee of USD120 or 12,000 Mileage Credits charge.

Yes-but do you get back all the taxes/fuel surcharges etc if you cancel?

Yes you get all taxes/fuel surcharges on top of the base miles refunded.

Don't think is 3 years. Someone I know cancelled their redemption ticket recently, and the mileage expiration was only extended for less than a year, not 3 years.
