Guitar as carry on ?

Hi. While on my vacation here in the Philippines, i bought a guitar and i'm wondering if it's ok for Cathay Pacific that guitars can be carry on. My flight is from Manila to Hong Kong then Hong Kong to Milan. I'm worried that they would put it on check-in but i don't trust it as i have read many stories that their guitar was returned into pieces.

By the way, i won't be carrying another carry on with me, just my guitar. Would it increase my chances of getting my guitar on board with me ?

Thanks. It's my first time bringing an instrument in a flight.

I would almost certainly no problem just make sure you are one of the first to board

No you can't. Only smaller instruments are allowed.

Welcome to FT. But instead of asking such a question on an online forum, you could find an 100% definite answer on CX's website yourself.

Small musical instruments – such as a violin or a flute, within the size of 78 x 25 x 15 cm (31 x 10 x 6 in) (H x W x D) and within the weight of 7 kg (15 lb) inclusive of the hard case can be carried on board if it can be stowed safely inside the overhead locker.

Other musical instrumentssuch as guitars, exceeding the above limits or the cabin baggage allowance must be checked in as checked baggage.
......or you can purchase an extra seat for your guitar....or travel in J/F where you will have that kind of extra space.

I've carried on a guitar before in a hardboard case, but that was in F.

They seem meticulous on these.

Was on a recent trip to Asia. At the checkin counter, i overheard that PAX (flying with her mom) had a violin with her as carry on but counter require it be checked in.

PAX mom insisted it be allowed as carryon. Counter manager measured it and ultimately gave it the ok for carry on.
