HKG to TYO

Booked sfo to hkg using avios on CX. Wife wants to go to Japan now 3/27-3/31, so we'll go from hkg to japan and then back to hkg.

I'd like to use avios but have 200k United miles as well. There are 4 of us flying. I checked out the BA points requirement and it's around 10,000 in economy. Any advice or tip as to which airline to try to book with and if it's really 10k miles?

BA did not have direct flights and a connection through pvc is liek 35k miles.
How best to book this flight and with which airline? Availability good or bad during that week? It's easter week so it might be bad.. assuming people travel that week in asia.

FWIW - Both UA and NH do not have award seats in Y at this moment. So the idea of using UA miles is off.

Have you tried use Avios to book either CX or JL? Both are OW members which you should have no issue using Avios on the them.

I can confirm that it's 10k Avios -- 30k for F is one of the best uses of Avios, to my mind.

You have a choice of using HND or NRT. I much prefer HND -- saves time and money getting to/from where I'll be in TYO.

Keep in mind that those dates in late March are getting into cherry blossom time (maybe why your wife is so keen on going!) so reward seats on any carrier using any program's miles might be hard to come by. As garykung says, there's already limited to no availability on * carriers. If you don't find anything soon on oneworld with Avios, you should look at buying a revenue ticket before everything totally sells out.

If you are really desperate to redeem your UA miles, you may find availability on CA via Beijing. Visa might not be required under the new 72-hour transit rule : http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/china...e-transit.html

Cherry blossom season varies every year. The forecast is here : http://www.jnto.go.jp/sakura/eng/index.php

Ive tried booking BA but no direct flight. Theres a more expensive one stop and involves china air. Id like to avoid that option due to 2 child comng with us. Ba doesnt give me japan air either so they may be booked. Is stopping at PVC bad, Its shanghai i believe. I guess i can try F but i thought they use regional planes alot so it would only be j right?

Cross-posting is not allowed. As OP is using BA Avios, I shall close this thread. You can continue this discussion in the BA forum.
