Y class meals served in J?

I was just op-upped on CX466 HKG-TPE (Y to J). The J cabin was pretty full and I'm relatively sure that a big chunk of the pax were op-ups because of the holidays. When the meals were served, I saw a number of Y class meals being distributed, as in the full Y set-up (plastic containers instead of china, etc.).

It's possible that some of the op-upped pax had special meal requests that weren't available on short notice for J meals. The Y meal served closest to me had a pink foil lid with a sticker on it (couldn't make out what it said though).

I hope it wasn't because there just weren't enough J meals to go around and they served op-upped passengers Y meals. I personally did not partake having gorged myself in the Wing before the flight.

I've seen this before on ORD-HKG as well. Too many opups.

I don't see a problem with that.

Afterall...you only paid a Y fare ticket. I would be thankful for the op-up for me to be able to enjoy the J cabin / seat already. The meal? If they didn't have enough....I'm more than happy to eat the regular Y meal I paid for.

And plus...you mentioned it might have been a special meal request. (ie. the pink tin foil). Opups could have been done anywhere between 1-2hrs below the flight. There's no way to arrange for a religious/veg J meal within that short period of time.

It is possible that those are special meals. Recently I had this experience. Me, my wife and my son were on CX873 in paid J. Apparently there were a lot of op-up on the flight because when I did OLCI the cabin was only half full. We were seated at the last row. However the FA came to us before each meals and asked us what would we like to ensure that we got what we wanted. It is a nice gesture.
