Kids in Premium Cabins

Hi Guys,

This actually isn't a thread where I let off steam regarding younger children in Premium Cabins. In fact its regarding your level of acceptability to the situation.

I, an older brother to a sister under 10 have and continue to travel J & F long and medium haul. My sisters behaviour isn't great, that is given. Although we aren't like those families who sit back and let their child scream throughout the flight. ESPECIALLY when it's in a premium cabin. Or worse; an overnighter...

We try hard to contain her whinging and whining but never seem to get her to stop it for more than an hour!

Basically what I am trying to ask is, do you find it acceptable for children to fly in Premium Cabins as long as the Parent makes an outstanding effort to contain them?

I for one do, and have lost so many hours of in-flight sleep trying to constantly put movies on for her. In Y, W, J and F alike. And I think this represents that the parents aren't just flying Premium cabins to hope that the children get some sleep. They're trying to make sure they do and also minimise the fuss involved in doing so.

I appreciate your opinions as most people on this forum are frequent flyers.

Thanks

I don't care about the details of the pax....I just don't want to hear noise and have people running into my seat and thumping around in the aisle. Basically, I want to be able to sleep and relax relatively undisturbed. No matter if they're 2 or 62, no matter the language, etc. Off the top of my head I think my "worst" experience with noise in F actually came from the cockpit crew flirting with the FAs in the forward galley on a 77W. I can't recall really ever being disturbed by kids in F, actually. Not that I've flown with them often or really am ever paying attention, but on the few occasions I've seen kids in there I haven't ever had a memorable (aka bad) experience. I think I'd remember something and nothing seems to stick out.

Before I have kids, no tolerance. After I have kids, total acceptance when parents are trying. It's really as simple as that.

I think the worst is that the parents use the FA as babysitter

Thanks for a really informative response, I totally agree with what your saying. Your opinion is very much valued, as with all others posted. I agree that no matter what the source of noise it is well known that it's just bad plane etiquette, if you will. I to have experienced certain situations with 'chatty' cabin crews. Another reason to sit in the middle of the cabin...

Yes I have thanks. Although I felt that regarded more parents showing no tolerance which I also do not agree with. Although I wanted to look more into the issue of what pax thought of parents who were trying to tolerate their children but were not suceeding.

That really must be painful for the FA and I agree that it isn't the job of the FA to care for misbehaving children. Their job is to deliver a service and certainly not take the strain of pesky little children.

The amount of times my parents have said that! :p

My most recent flight there are 6 kids, 3 infants, 1 toddler, 2 what looks like 5-7 year-olds. Crying and whining all flight. Me? Put on the head set, set up a playlist, enjoy the music, go to bed. Really not hard...

Absolutely - unfortunately there are too many parents who make no effort whatsoever to control their kids on a flight - irrespective of cabin.

Fair enough. Always good to see and hear people who are well equipped for the situation. I guess thats what we expect from OWE's and DM's these days... Must encounter such situations an awful lot!

Ugh, this bugs me as well when the parents don't try. Anyhow, the earplugs they give really do work wonders.

The best option for under 10 if just put them on a late flight and force them to stay up all night.
They will sleep for 8-9 of the hours and they will wake up on HKG time.
