STPC

So I qualify for STPC :D and Cathay put me up at the Royal View hotel. Given that this is no where near public transportation, I want to switch to another hotel.

Any recommendations on who I should be contacting? MPC or reservations? Or is there some special number for this?

Thanks!

Usually you take what the airline gives you. They may have an alternate one but you need to contact either res or your travel agent if he booked it for you.

If none available, then you're stuck with that. CX would provide transport to/from hotel too.
The point of a STPC is for you to stay overnight as there is no immediate connecting flight available. It's not for you to go out for shopping!

It's a great hotel so don't know why you're complaining about...And it has complimentary transfers to Tsim Sha Tsui!

What is Cathay's criteria for STPC?
Which hotel do they usually use at HKG?

When there is no connecting flight available within same day of arriving flight. One of which must be a long haul flight. There are a few hotels CX uses. Don't know which ones exactly. Either like the one at Tsing Yi or some airport ones.

Could always get the Panda Hotel in Tsuen Wan with a horde of tour groups :)

Usually I don't worry about being able to go into the city but my layover is exactly 24 hours. Talk about not being able to make the MCT.

I can safely say that CX will do all possible to avoid giving you a hotel.

I have a booking from WNZ to HKG to ORD to MDT.
WNZ to HKG arrives at 110pm. HKG to ORD is next day at 1150am and then connecting to MDT on AA.

Called CX res.

Agent said that passenger can go via any other flight to MDT via SFO or LAX and need not fly the ORD flight even though the flight times are longer.

Passenger is DM on an economy class ticket. CX says tough but no hotel.

So I guess they will only give you a hotel where they have one flight a day to a country that CX doesn't fly to often.

@guy betsy,

Interesting.

Being a passenger, i would agree and that i'd love for CX to understand passenger (with preference for direct and in one sense to get the free stopover) insist on the HKG-ORD next day.

In fairness to CX, and if they can find an option, i think the logic they have is that by having the passenger fly at other option (LAX/SFO/NYC), they decrease the total flight time. The overnight stay does increase the overall flight time.

IMHO, I think the LAX/SFO or even a EWR option may come as a hassle to the passenger as now it becomes something like HKG-LAX-ORD-MDT or worst something like HKG-LAX-DFW-ORD-MDT and i'm not mistaken, this may potentially increase the cost of the flight.

(While still ORD? as some regional flights still comes out of ORD than anywhere else.)

Now knowing CX, they probably thought the hotel stay would cost more.
