baggage interline with JL

I'm contemplating of doing some delivering/proper shopping from japan - but I may not be able to catch the direct flight back.

As JL provides more decent Baggage allowance, does anyone know what happens if I try to transit to CX (eg. NGO/KIX-(JL)-TPE-(CX)-HKG? Will I be able to check through 2x 23kg in NGO/KIX all the way to HKG? I've read reports on other threads (not JL-CX) that the first airline rules, but I also remember a friend was having problems checking HKG-LHR-EDI (CX-BA).
Obviously needing to recheck in LHR causes most of the problems, but is JL-CX thru check ok (with a baggage allowance >>CX)!?

Now IATA uses MSC, not first airline rule. However, in either case, the first carrier happens to be the MSC, so JL rule applies to your case and CX rule applies to your friend's case.

Also, CX and JL are long-standing partners, so no problem checking bags through (in fact, they code-share).

Thanks! just 1 more question- how does elite status allowance propagate through? OW doesnt give extra luggage allowance to partners, but if you through check....? (btw, i shall call up JAL and ask at the same time)

It's complicated. If the airline you hold FFP with happens to be the airline you check-in with, you should be fine. If not, I guess you are out of luck. I remember CI has (or had) a rule where if a CI elite checks in with another airline who charges you over-weight fee on a connection CI segment, CI will refund the elite the portion CI got. Don't know if it's still the case after CI joins ST, though.

Hi,

I have 2 separate tickets from SIN (via HKG) to TPE (CX) and TPE to NRT (JL). Can i check through my luggage from SIN to NRT during check-in at CX counter in SIN?

In addition, for the JL Boarding Pass, is there any transfer desk in TPE airport in which can process the issuance of JL BP from TPE to NRT? Or do I have to clear immigration at TPE to obtain luggage and then check-in at JL desk for the TPE-NRT sector.

Thanks.

Thru check OK at SIN.
If all one ticket, CX may issue JL BP.
If not, at TPE, you are in transit , so no immigration required. Get BP there.
