Baggage question

Hi There,

I am travelling LHR-HKG F staying in HKG for three days then onto PER in J on the same booking reference.

I am trying to find out if I can use F baggaage of 40kg on the J sector.

The website says:

"For through journeys where the passenger travels partly on first or Business class and partly on economy class, the free baggage allowance for each portion of travel shall be granted according to each purchased ticket class.

Where a passenger who has paid the First or Business class fare travels on Economy class, the free baggage allowance shall be given based on that for the First or Business class service respectively."

It is a miles redemption (AA miles - 105K). Can I safely assume I can use the F allowance on the J flight (40kg) without risk of argument?

Thanks,

Marcus.

Yes - especially when you have that flight from the same reservation.

Not sure exactly what award you had even after looking through oneworld and Other Airline Award Chart. I think what CX meant to say is that, if you redeemed an F award all the way through, but since F (Z) was not available for HKG-AUS you were booked in J (U), you would have F allowance all the way. However, if you redeemed 2 awards (F for EU-HKG and J for HKG-AUS), you have only the J allowance on the J segments.

OP has specified that by:

Your e-ticket should also show the luggage allowance for each sector. I would expect it shows 40kg for each sector.

I do not know how AAdvantage work. One booking reference does not mean one award TKT. A booking can in fact contain multiple TKTs.

I see your point. But OP is the one who has the information.

FWIW, I never see a booking reference has multiple tickets for the same person.

I may be wrong, but I think a booking with more than 4 segments may end in two ticket numbers.

Try to learn - Is this system-dependent?

I remembered once I have a 5-segment multi-cities MR on UA. They are all within a single locator and ticket number.

I start having 2 tickets for my normal TPE-HKG-SHA vv

the first one is first 3 leg, 2nd one is 4th leg, all having same booking reference.

it will clearly state it is a CONJUNCTION TICKET that tickets are linked together.

Yeah that's called conjunction TKT as ChrisLi said. It is system-wide. Back in the days with paper TKT a physical TKT can only have 4 segments and 5 cities written and hence why. BTW, ChrisLi had a conjunction TKT probably due to an PVG-SHA open jaw (which is counted as one sector)? However, that is not what I was talking about, nor was I talking about booking containing multiple PAX.

As stated I do not know how AAdvantage handle things like this. However, say the cost of LHR-HKG in F + HKG-PER in J is cheaper than LHR-PER in F, everything can be booked under one reference (record locator) but issued as 2 separate TKTs - one LHR-HKG in F and the other HKG-PER in J, each has different fare rules, etc.

Hi, Thanks for the replies.

It is one booking reference and one e-ticket number.

I am hoping therefore that 40kg will apply all of the way through.

Cheers,

Marcus.

Be careful because when my father tried this he went to check in at HKG for the leg down to AKL in NZ after a few days in HKG after travelling LHR to HKG in F. As they didnt have F on his flight which I had paid for as an award flight and they told him very clearly he had to use biz class allowance for the HKG AKL HKG sectors.

Are the LHR-HKG and HKG-AKL segments on the same itinerary?
