Does ExpertFlyer still work for CX after the system change?
Since CX's reservation system change, I've found ExpertFlyer is inconsistent with what MPO is telling me about upgrade availability. I know ExpertFlyer has never had CX upgrade award data, but previously I found that if a flight was showing D and I class availability, I could upgrade using AsiaMiles. If there were a few seats in J class, I could usually clear the upgrade waitlist.
However, I've tried to upgrade a couple of flights that show availability in J D I since the system change, and each time MPO tells me the flights are oversold in business (with a waitlist for revenue pax). Anyone know what's happening? |

Anyone know what's happening? It is becoming more and more frustrating in burning those miles when CX is making it difficult to secure upgrade redemption seats. For example, I refused to issue my revenue ticket in K class if I was unable to secure a J class redemption seat - why would I want to give CX additional $$$ for something that I cannot secure as upgrade when I get save and book in V class (and get my 100% mileage). After the tickets were issued and when I took the flight, I was surprised to learn that on the particular flight, there were at least three J class seats that went empty that would otherwise could have been utilised with my upgrade miles. And I held my ticket issuance two days prior to departure where I was able to get one segment issued in V class and on the return in K class (as I was able to get my upgrade redemption confirmed). Previously, CX was very generous to its DM members with converting revenue seats to U class but it seems this has come to an end. I've also had no luck in them confirming Economy Class redemption on a flight that still showed seats availability. My question now is what is the point in hanging onto CX DM membership when there is no value proposition. I may as well focus on getting QF Platinum which is much easier than CX's 120K mileage qualification. CX should stop giving away its valuable DM and GO membership to AMEX Centurion and Platinum charge card members as this only devalues those members that have gone the long way in securing their membership by completing 120K mileage on an annual basis. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE WAY CX MPO SERVICE CENTRE AND LOYALTY IS MANAGED THESE DAYS! |
Did you complain to MPC? I believe the give away will only come to an end if ppl don't stop complaining about it.

Wouldn't instant airport upgrade work in this instance? Pay for fare difference at the airport and do the upgrade.
I'm thinking of doing it for an upcoming trip and I know there's a risk of a full flight. For a flight 2 weeks away, local office is saying J is still clear but when I got through to MPO they won't release the seats. I'm thinking when I get to the airport, it becomes CX "loss" not to accommodate a mileage upgrade if seats are available. |
