Same day standby question - CX888
 

Hi FT -

I'm booked on CX888 to JFK next week on that discounted business I fare that's only available on 888/889 (i.e. the fare class states "Flight Restrictions: HKG/NYC/HKG valid on CX888/889 only").

But I believe that sometimes fare rules can be over-ridden at the airport on the day of travel.

My question - with this fare class, anyone know if on the day it's possible to show up at the airport earlier and standby on one of the direct JFK flights?

Also - since 888 departs at 00:30, does a flight earlier that evening (eg CX846 at 18:45), while technically on a different day, still count as 'same day'?

In case it makes a difference I'm DM.

not sure about being DM, but as a SL, i always had to pay change fee back in the student days(unless i held the no change fee tickets).

This is not a simple standby for an earlier flight. The check-in staff cannot override the terms on your ticket, but does not hurt to try.

Interesting question....my gut says no, but I'd be very curious to hear your results if you don't mind please respond back.

I have never experienced the exact situation but I can share something similar with you. I was once travelling on CX463 (the earliest CX FLT from TPE to HKG) to connect to CX830 (to JFK), while my parents bought TKTs to just go to HKG on a later FLT of the same date (because of fare restriction they could not take CX463). We 3 were all GOs at that time. Even though CX463 definately had emply seats left, the check-in agent could not accomondate my parents to the earlier FLT, so they spent time in the TPE lounge for several hours. (Not that we expected they to. In fact, my parents planned to arrive HKG around noon.)
