Seat selection

I have booked award travel on Cathay using AA miles. How long before I can contact Cathay to get seat assignments?

Also, WHERE are you guys finding the seat layout for the 77D and 77A seating formats?

Seatguru.com -- my "go to" source -- is utterly useless on this, as it has me on a regional 773 jet, which I know I am not on.

Tried the suggestion to make a dummy booking and opt for seat selection at passenger's name, but I never saw that option.

It's much ado about nothing, as I am traveling alone, and I think the business class seats are all pretty much the same if you are. Just curious....

You can do it on line... All you need is CX's PNR... You can also find seat maps on their website...

http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_...leet/b_777_300 <-- You can see their three different configurations.

My apologies -- I actually HAD stumbled across it there, then couldn't figure out where I saw it!

Thanks so much (not only for the link but also for not flaming me!)

As stated....I am in the remedial group!

No need to apologize. I'm also learning. The only reason why I knew is because I also booked a CX flight with AA miles.

I am amazed at how useless Seatexpert is for CX....it took them ages to get the 77A layout up I remember, and now more than a half-year after its introduction, they still don't have 77D. It plainly isn't very difficult for them to get that description as CX provides it publicly on their website. Furthermore, the description of 77A is still "Boeing 777-300ER (New three class")....while in fact that config is old enough to be in the replacement phase! CX is re-configuring all their 77As to other configurations that introduce the new business class and change the F and Y+ layouts. Oops. At least Seatguru gets the aircraft name on there (77A) so people aren't totally confused.

One last dig at seatexpert - I still check them from time to time hoping they can give me a little extra info, but just find it pointless. For example, for F on 77A it recommends 2D over 1K, a trade-off I would never make as a single business traveler. The rationale is that 1K is a "heavy traffic area" (2 extra people in F behind you makes it "heavy traffic"?)..., while adding that 2D is "close to the restrooms", which might fool someone not familiar with the plane into thinking the restrooms are behind the F section (they're not, J seats are immediately behind F...F lavs are in the front). It also says 27A/K are bad seats in J class due to them being "heavy traffic areas", which is completely erroneous information. In fact, I often will select those seats because they have very LITTLE traffic thanks to the J lavs being forward, save the occasional J passenger who sneaks under the Y curtain to use the Y lav.

I have an award reservation in F for next week on CX SFO to HKG, the cabin shows as being full when I go to select a seat but the CX website is still selling seats on this flight? Is this due to the bassinet seats being blocked off or are they overselling in case somebody cancels? I'm hoping to move to a window seat from the middle one :)

How do you find CXs PNR on AA? It doesn't show up under my reservations.

Bassinet. You can call CX and ask to get one of the blocked seats. They will tell you they may have to move you if they need the bassinet.
