Does Citibank Rewards still charge $50 per 5000 AM redeemed?

Transferred 500 AM from Citi Rewards a month ago....and I don't recall being charged.

I did a transfer this week, and paid something like HKD250 to convert points into 16,000 AsiaMiles.

That seems like an unusual amount.....shouldn't it have been $200 max?

Not sure why I didn't get charged maybe it only starts at $50, when its 5000 AM's and above?
Or maybe because I have both the Rewards and Premiermiles? (100% positive the miles/points were deducted from the Rewards portion)

I might be misremembering. Will see what shows up on my statement.

You're right -- it was $200, which works out to $50 per 5000-mile block. I feel slightly silly at paying $50 for the 1000 miles that pushed me up a bracket, but I'm about to redeem for a J-class ticket to North America, so what's HK$50 compared to the US$8,000 I won't be spending on airfare?

http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...ow.php?id=9915
http://www.citibank.com.hk/english/c...redemption.htm

So Premiermiles becomes effectively $7.41/mile during this time [Kaka, please update Premiermiles entries in post 1 - V.viii Other retail spending VII.iv Octopus AAVS. Perhaps add them to I. Overseas as well.

Only by phone, not by online or My Way auto conversions.

What are some of the welcome bonus HSBC have offered in the past?

The current "mophie juice pack powerstation" / $400 RewardCash / 0% Interest rate for 9-months doesn't sound that attractive...

The $400 RC would be equivalent to 6000 Asia Miles....but that's about it.
Have they offered better deals in the past?

OK, so here's my current CC earning strategy. Can the gurus tell me if I'm missing anything? I've found this thread incredibly helpful so far and want to make sure I'm putting the knowledge to best use. This represents about the limit of credit cards I'm willing to carry with me on a daily basis (want to avoid a Costanza wallet a la Seinfeld!).

For most local spend, AmEx CX elite (I don't mind the automatic transfer since I always redeem well before miles expire) or Citi PremierMiles for non-AmEx merchants.

Citi Rewards Visa at all grocery stores.

HSBC Premier MC (with dining as the 5x bonus category) for dining.

US-based Premier MC for overseas spending (I know I'm losing out on double miles here, but since my salary is paid in USD anyway this saves me cold, hard cash on conversions all around). I'm out of HK enough that if I need some quick extra miles for anything, I can always use the Amex/PremierMiles for the double miles on a case-by-case basis.

That's already five cards (although at least the HK HSBC card doubles as my ATM card), and I'm not keen to lug around more.

Am I doing as well as I can be given the number of cards I'm willing to work with?

$4500 for 6000 AM isn't bad at all. I don't mind having to spend more the first 1-2 months, if it means a bigger welcome bonus either.

What bothers me about that amount is.....depending on how you look at it....it's almost as if they just gave you an one year airline miles redemption for free.

$400 RC to use whatever way you want.....or aka 6000 Asia Miles, but first you would have to pay the $300 HKD annual redemption fee to redeem these 6000 (and other earned) miles...

Does the $300 annual redemption fee go by HKID? or by individual credit card number?
Say you have 2 HSBC credit cards.....do you pay or twice?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B206 Safari/7534.48.3)

Kaka I don't think HSBC's ever done 300RC or 400RC for less than $3,500 spend...$400/600 sounds more like shacom than HSBC.

You know what are the happy things with HSBC welcome offers?

1. Double earn them on the 6X category

2. Apply for a CCB Unionpay card to pay HSBC off and earn that welcome offer too

....triple earn!

Sorry CanucksHKG can you post link to this $400 RC welcome offer? I don't seem to see it...

Want to see what existing cardholders get.
