Great promo for people travelling over Easter (like me) except it doesn't apply to normal cards like the one I have (regular HSBC VISA) but only the two dual currency cards and the JCB gold...kinda sucks.

It applies to your "normal" cards - their pictures are on the top left corner of the promo and are included in the t&c under clause 2

how do they work out if payment is online or not? I guess for major websites like airlines or amazon.com, there might be different authorization code for internet payment. However if you are asking your merchants overseas to charge your card whilst in HK, don't see how this will be considered a "online/fax/email" order.

If you use your card physically, a terminal will be able to request an Authorisation Request Cryptogram (if EMV terminal) or at least transmit your magstrip data (if magstripe terminal)

If your card was keyed in, HSBC will only not be given the info in your chip/magstripe so it will know the transaction was performed without card present.

I've done some disputes with BEA, they are able to tell what was a card present transaction or not pretty accurately, and whether a card not present transaction was done via an online merchant or a keyed-in transaction (i.e. phone/mail/fax). Some hotels and subscriber services (e.g. factiva.com) are counted as keyed-in even tho the information was submitted a website as the merchant does not process the transaction automatically but keys in the data into a card terminal somewhere.

Awesome, thanks for noting that! No idea why I would read clause 3 before clause 2.

Both clause 2 and clause 3 can be read on their own. But since they're both part of the contract, you can choose to apply either one or both.

It doesn't help HSBC has decided to publish the T&C in picture format only.

Newbies to AsiaMiles

Dear all, we are a couple planning for our wedding in late 2013. As we are going to spend a lot in the coming 2 years, we plan to apply for various cards to redeem AsiaMiles. We got many questions and wish they could be answered before actually applying

Here are the forecoming expenditures:
1) HKD$232000 as hotel deposit ($116000/each after split) to be paid in May 2012
2) TWD$80000 (~HKD$10000/each after split) for prewedding photos in Taiwan in May 2012
3) Payment for the Taiwan trip in May 2012 and a Japan trip in November 2012 (hotel fees, meals, shopping, etc.)
4) Other payments in HKD (remaining hotel fees, decorations, etc.)

We plan to hold a DBS Black card (the best rate for local purchases) and Fubon Titanium (the best rate for overseas) in long term, is it good enough to cover most expenses?

Any other cards (e.g. Citibank / CX / BEA / WLB) should we better apply as well? What are their advantages, if any, over DBS Black + Fubon, apart from getting the welcoming offers?

As for earning the max welcoming offers, I am not sure how many cards should we apply for, coz it seems too troublesome to apply the 8-10 of them.... How should we choose? Is it generally easy to apply and cancel the credit cards?

Finally can anyone share if its easy to waive the annual fees for DBS Black / Citibank / CX / BEA cards? As I know only Fubon is free. As for CX cards can we waive the 1st year annual fee with spending >150K (as it saids only the 2nd year can be waived...)

Thanks a lot!!!!!

You can spend 81K on two principal ICBC HK Airlines cards and get the Fortune Wings Club miles to redeem two Singapore or Phuket tickets for honeymoon http://www.icbcasia.com/big5/etool/f...HKAirlines.pdf

Taiwan - Fubon - apply for two and take advantage of the 20X ($1.2/mile) points currently offered for Taiwan spending http://www.fubonbank.com.hk/web/html/cc_cbp00_e.html . $5,000 per month per card max - so can you arrange for some payments to go out as fax deposit first (fax deposits count)?

Other big welcome offers - DBS Black, Citi Rewards, CX Elite Amex and CCB Dual Currency. You have two years. Have u and your fiance apply a card every three weeks in the two months before your big payments go out.

Waive: DBS is very easy. BEA might make you try to spend something, like $1,000 (but you've two years waiver). AE is no waiver below 150K but you should either go up to Plat Credit to keep it (for Priority Pass) or cut it and churn it (no ongoing benefits other than Priority Pass). Citibank is generally easy to get waiver but we normally ask Citi to pay us money/miles at anniversary rather than we pay them (or we cut the card and churn it).

Bank of Communication Plattinum Visa Card

5500 Asiamiles welcome offer
https://www.asiamiles.com/am/en/earn...0007d21c39RCRD

effectively 1:1 earn ratio. (worse than the CUP card offering 6000miles for 3000 HK$ spend) but not a bad way to earn 11000miles fairly quickly.

1. How did you get 11,000 miles?

2. 5,500 miles = 4,000 miles for $4,000 local spending (worse than previous) + 1,000 miles for $1,000 overseas spending + 500 for online application

I rather stick with the 5,000 miles for $3,000 local spending offer on the bank's form. 500 more miles for $1,000 additional local spending and $1,000 additional overseas spending is definitely not worth the hassle - if you spend $1,000 overseas on Fubon and $1,000 on DBS Black = 500 miles too! And Fubon/DBS are not capped.

I gave kaka some updates for post 2, I noted the above offer but did not include it in the list of updates on purpose.

I may have been unclear but I meant getting 6000miles from CUP card offer and 5000miles on this offer = total 11k.

cuz i've only taken up the CUP card offer (expired march 31) recently.

The application form link http://www.bankcomm.com.hk/mediafile...12asiamile.pdf is down, but I'm sure it'll include the following term when it comes back up again.

"Applicant who is currently holding or has held the principal card(s) of any card type(s) or supplementary card(s) of Platinum Credit Card issued by the Bank in the past 6 months is not eligible for any of the promotional welcome gifts even though your credit card is successfully approved and issued, without prior notice." (my underlining)

You cannot enjoy the Bankcomm Plat welcome offer after the Bankcomm Diamond welcome offer.
