Headsets supplied in J..???

Have been wondering whether it's worthwhile to bring my own Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones, does anyone know the brand/quality of the headsets supplied in J?

You can bring it to listen to your own iPod or something, but CX provides high quality noise cancelling headphones for their own IFE. I'm not even sure if you can unplug those on the old seats, but for me they've mostly been great - had a worn down one once - so if you don't need to bring it, don't bother.

The ones CX give in J are unbranded and for me quite an uncomfortable fit. I prefer my Bose ones over those anytime.

I bought my own Bose phones. Love them. I think they are definitely better than the ones they give out in J on DL for the noise-cancelling.

Perhaps I should add... your mileage may varry? :o

I own a pair of Bose in ears... good for everyday use, but I'd take headphones over them on a plane.

Thanks for the input everyone, it has helped me decide to take them with me, I really appreciate your help :)

I'd use my Shure in-ears any day on plane over big bulky headphones.

I know in CX F it's easy to unplug the provided ones and use your own, but I think you need the 2-pronged adapter.

I can't recall how easy it is on CX J. I do remember that on the old CX F you could break your wrist trying to swap headphones, as the jack was in a very inconvenient location.

Agreed. Which is why my Bose are the over-the-ear QC-15 variety. Seriously, they're kinda awesome. :D

Just flew on CX in J and wanted to use my Bose headphones. Couldn't figure out how to unplug the standard set though.

It's quite easy (this applies for 77A/74A...not sure about the new 77D). You just pull out the three-pronged plug (which is located either on your right or left, about elbow height when sitting upright), and then make sure you have a two-pronged adapter (the third bottom prong that comes with the CX headphones is for powering the noise cancelling system).

Watch your adapter plug

The two prong adapter that is provided with your BOSE set will NOT work due to cowling around the J headset input. buy a separate adapter that goes straight in (not in the shape of an L as the BOSE one is because the L is the one that won't fit).

Any idea what kind of 2-prong adapter to get? Perhaps an item number or picture would be greatly appreciated. I am planning on getting a BOSE QC15. Thank you very much!

QC 15

My QC 15 works fine on the 74A in J. However I did have to buy an extra adapter for the regional 773. It has a single thicker connector which was not included with my QC 15 set.

Alternatively, get the Klipsch X10i. Top of the line sound, the gel buds really do seal out sound well and you can sleep with them even when on your side and ear firmly planted in the pillow. Also come with regular plane connector as well as the thick one you had to go out and buy. Have had mine for almost a year and they play beautifully. The integration with iPhone/Pod/Pad is a given.

I think it depends on your headphones. I'm using a pair of Senheiser PXC450s, and got advice from someone on here a while back...although the cowling in J appears not to fit with the two pronged adapter at first, a good backhand or a club with the fist does it every time for my headphones.

As for F class, I can get my own headphones going in all seats on 77A and 74A except 4D on 74A, where there is a smaller custom headphone cubby on the right side of the seat. I recently had that realization on 74A, fortunately the cabin wasn't full so I just moved seats. The whole headphone storage area has an extremely narrow clearance, and despite my best efforts bashing the two pronged adapter in it is about 1/4 of an inch too wide.
