Exit row seat selection

In the past, when going online to select my seats, I couldn't choose exit row/extra legroom seats if I hadn't issued my ticket yet; I had to call the local CX office to reserve such seats. However, on an upcoming itinerary, which hasn't been ticketed yet, I was able to select 31A on the 77A. The entire block of 31ABC and HJK, as well as row 54, were highlighted in blue (for exit row), but the individual seats weren't marked in pink (for extra-legroom seat).

What's even more confusing is that for another (regional) flight in the same itinerary, the extra-legroom seats were marked pink, and I wasn't able to select them.

Anyone have this experience before?? IT glitch, or perhaps it's because ORD is a new route?

Not me. I have not expereinced this before. So normally if i am paying full fare Y (for short haul work reasons), I issue my ticket as soon as I can and grab row 31.

A lot of talk about 31A today...

You sure you don't mind not having a window on 31A? :p

My favorite seat on the plane, in Y at least. :D

I think the only merit(a big one though) 31A has is the increased legroom, otherwise there is nothing that good about 31A since it doesn't have a window as said above, you get disturbed by people lining up for toilets, and you have to bend your neck to look downwards rather than look forwards to watch the IFE screen.

Not to mention the seat is narrower too

Personally, I think 31A and 31K are the best seats in the house since all Y seats can't recline. Why? The following reasons:

1) You get room to stretch your leg. If you have a solid briefcase or luggage, put it out during flight and put your leg up, priceless.

2) No window, but you get a curved in wall, which means if you sleep and lean your head against the wall your body are angle in a way that you get at least 2 more inches of room sideways. A big plus in my opinion.

3) Bathroom is right in front of you, you can wait till the queue is clear and jump right in without having to keep standing in line. And no in my numerous flying long-haul I'm pleasant surprised that the queue is never more than 3 people at a time (unlike the back of the plane when it can be easily 5-7 people ahead of you despite having multiple bathrooms.)

4) You hop off the plane first (for Y cabin), very useful when you head back to JFK T7, if your plane lands before the BA plane you get out of customs in less than 5 minutes.

if you are extroverted and likes to talk to CX FAs...

5) The CX FA is right there before your face at take-off, landing, and severe turbulence. Good opportunity to strike up a conversation.

There really is no comparison, 31A and 31K seats are the best.

+1. No question, 31A/K are my favorite Y seats on the 77A, and perhaps the entire fleet, as IIRC no other plane has "window" exit row seats without an exit slide invading your legroom.

Thanks all - just grabbed 31A for my outbound and inbound ORD-HKG...

To be honest - this is exactly my reason for 31A.

You meant no other CX plane right?

I'd hazard to say any J or F seat would be a (much and very much) "better" seat in the house.

1) If you have two legs do you have a problem? This would be very niche marketing as stated.

2) No window? How can anyone fly with no window? You have to keep up with the current crisis regarding this seat.
