Is it true to say that meals on long haul flights follow these rules?

1) First meal served will match the time of departure point, ie. a lunchtime departure will mean you are served lunch.

2) Next meal served will be the meal that would naturally follow the first meal. Ie. if first meal is lunch, second meal will be dinner; if first meal is dinner, second meal will be breakfast.

If you fly F then you set your own schedule. 140 am departure meant dinner at my request at what was about 5 am departure time and 5 pm arrival time and breakfast on awakening at 4 am local time was 4 pm departure time. So I had dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner the next day.

On a 1020 am flight BKK HKG that started in Delhi breakfast was Indian food with curry and naan bread. Was that a breakfast? A lunch? Who knows.

BKK -HKG is not long haul. And I'm pretty sure the meal you refer to was labeled as either breakfast, brunch, or lunch.

Yes, CX seems to follow that (as do almost all airlines!). But how to characterize meals for flights that leave at 1am (and meal served at 2am+ local time? Those seem to have "supper", which is a slightly abbreviated/lighter dinner. Not that much difference between lunch/dinner/supper and even breakfast for that matter, at least in F, so not sure what the point of this question is. Probably more difference between the chinese/western choices than between meal types, fwiw.

Labelling it as one of the three covers all the bases other than dinner. Yes BKK HGK is not long haul. The point was that they didn't serve breakfast in the morning rather lunch.

Re 2: Not necessarily. For European mid-day departure the first meal is a 'lunch'. Before the morning arrival into HKG, the second meal is a 'breakfast'.

And if you depart from Europe in the evening and arrive into HKG in late afternoon, the second meal is also a breakfast!
