Baggage Priority Tag Question

I don't know if this question has been asked many times, if so, I do apologize. But if I were to travel from HKG to ORD on CX J, and then connecting on to AA to PIT Y(Only cabin available), will I get the CX priority tag on my bags flying to Pittsburgh and vice-versa?

Your bags will be tagged priority to ORD. Since US customs requires you to collect your bags after deplaning, you will have to check it in again. Most likely you will be getting new tags but I am not totally sure as I have never done this before. Cheers

In my experience, after ORD custom, the recheck area just "flip" your bags over the belt either 1 or 2 (depends on your final designation), so no new tags.

Note: other airport handled differently, like NRT, always have new tag.

And now CX has "Orange Transit Arrow" oneworld priority tag, now CX will put the CX tag along with oneworld tag, so you will be fine.

Priority tags don't really mean anything with North American carriers, including AA, especially on regional jets.

Yeah!!! I totally agree!! In North America they don't care about priority tags, I was on CX did HKG-JFK with priority tags on our luggages first then connected to MCO.. Then at MCO our bags came last out of the carousel.

What about the return flight? When I check in at PIT, will I get a priority tag as well?

Yes, CX will pull the bag at ORD and tag it.

While I don't fly AA as much as I used to, but last time I did PHL-DFW-PHL both times my bags came out petty fast with other priority tagged bags.

Given ORD will be a new port for CX, I won't count on it 100%. If you really in a hurry to get the bag after arriving HKG, I suggest on your PIT to ORD leg, have your bag tag to ORD only, pick them up from the carousel then re-check @ CX counter.

This a the most troublesome way of ensuring it.

Or you could ask for a extra spare tag when you check-in HKG-ORD. When checking in at PIT, you can then tag the priority tag to the bag by yourself.

On AA in the US they have gotten a lot better for priority tags since all FC and EXP get them now for domestic flights. As always, it depends on the time of day, but last few times I've checked my bag, it has been on of the first ones off.
