Newbie Checking In

Hi guys thought I'd finally join the community. Just came in on my Diamond flight last night...pretty excited about it, after doing it straight from scratch. Had to give up flying UA all year, but glad to do it! Hope I can put in some useful info in the future!

Welcome to FT. Must be tough to get over the 210K miles mark. Congrats!

If you are based in Asia, and if you already pay for J long-haul, then I think being DM over 1k wins hands down, no questions asked, despite how much harder it is to earn CX DM than UA's 1k. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on CX, given how much you've been flying.

It was not a tough decision to give up UA. But I did wait to turn Million before shifting to CX. I now have lifetime Prem Exec on UA, just below 1K, but it's not bad. CX is definitely a much better airline than UA. They gave me a plaque and a Mont Blanc Passport Holder on turning DM. UA gave me 2 extra Systemwides when I turned 1K/1M and a 'shrug' from all their 'too' senior FAs who feign how much they value my business. Now I will try to keep to OneWorld and fly AA on my US and EU flights and see how these programs treat flyers compared to 1Ks at UA. I do miss the double miles at UA as you can rack up miles pretty fast for tickets, (not status). MP is pretty much actual flown miles unless you fly F. I did it the hardway!

You can also get 25% tier bonus flying J.

Getting your UA Life 1P was not easy too - BIS miles.;)

For all of your AA hops, you'll get Admirals Club access, as well as Flagship lounge access where available. A boost over UA/*A where F lounges are only available when traveling in international F.

Pretty excited about it. Haven't seen AA lounges yet!

With the exception of very few FLs and ACs (even that can be questionable), there is nothing to be excited about. Sorry to disappoint you.

Haha! Yep, keeping expectations low will always work better than expecting too much. Good point!

Nice to see you here Wolfgangbird!

HI I usually do Asia every 2-3 weeks so next one is this weekend! Got tickets all the way to May, but June and July seem to be a kicker - never expected the prices to be that high. Caught me by surprise!

That's a bummer! Might have to consider flying a bit less :)

I believe I know you, have you figured out who I am? :p

Wolfgangbird Mar 5, 2011 2:36 pm

Oh no. Not the guy with the M3?!

luial Mar 5, 2011 3:05 pm

Jackpot! Hahaha...
Never guessed to see you here, but with all that flying who wouldn't! :D
