Renewing MPC status early

Hi,

I just got my renewal for my MPC gold status 1 month early. It's still only valid for a year. I was wondering what the point of this was since I have already qualified for the renewal - it's not like they renewed my status when I hadn't requalified. This means, if on the off chance I do not get the enough miles this year that I would have lost a month of status.

What is the motivation of this? Has anyone else have his happen?

For me, my previous year SL membership runs from Aug 09 to end Aug 10. At the beginning of Aug 10, my membership was renewed from Aug 10 to end Aug 11. As such, all miles clocked in mid Aug 10 runs into the current year renewal. In a way, it was better for me as it makes it easier for me to requalify for SL this year.

I am not too sure if this is the current policy or it has changed to renew one month earlier. What was your previous year membership period and the new membership period?

If you are qualified for renewal the month before (and perhaps the first couple of days in the month of) the expiration date of your current membership year, CX would renew your status in the beginning of the month your original expiration date. This not only give you almost 13 months for your next membership year, but also allow CX to process the time needed to print and mail you the new membership card. On the other hand, if you do not qualify the month before the expiration date, CX will wait till the last day of your current membership year to determine your status for the upcoming membership year. That is, your will not lose your status early.

It sounded like OP lost one month due to early renewal. If that is the case, OP can call MPC to figure out the reason.

Early renewal is useful, especially for overseas members. MPC sends out renewal cards after renewal. My membership year ends in March. So far, they wait for end of March to renew and send my new membership card via SURFACE MAIL. I do not receive it until late April. If I am traveling on other OW airlines, I shall risk losing my lounge access with my expired MPC card.

Are you sure its only one year (12 months) and not almost 13 months?
I just got renewed last Jan 4. in time for my Jan 6 long haul flight to be credited for 2011 club miles. My membership details shows 04 Jan 2011-31 Jan 2012 giving me almost 13 months to re-qualify.
I wanted to call MPC (before the early renewal) to ask for an extension since I might make it to diamond (if they grant me 2 months extension) but decided to keep it as is since I would need to do a MR to make it.

Oops.

I only gained the status is Jan 09, and was supposed to end at the end of Jan 10.

I guess they've sent me my card early as it is valid until the end of January 11. That gives me 13 months. My bad.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

Hi

Just checking if CX still gives out early renewal one month before end of the qualifying period? My MPC membership period is from July 2011 to 31 July 2012. I have already clocked in 40 sectors to renew the GO status for another year. Just checking if CX will be resetting the Club Miles/Status in early July 2012 to give me a headstart for next year.

I have a J class trip coming up in June 2012 and another two separate Y class trips coming up in mid July 2012. Was hoping to clock the remaining trips in July 2012 for next year renewal since I will not be able to achieve Diamond for this membership year.

Thanks for sharing.

I think for upgrade it is done automatically but not for renewal. You can always give them a call to reset the membership year to take advantage (but your membership year will then become Jun 2012 - Jun 2013 instead of the origional Jul 2012 - Jul 2013)

I'm not sure if CX renews status early (maybe with the exception of DM). However, unless something got changed with the new system, CX usually renews status in the first 6 days or so of the last month if you have qualified the month before. Therefore, if OP has emough sectors now, the reset should happen in early July and gives OP almost 13 month (early Jul. 2012 to Jul. 31st 2013) for the next status year.
