Checking Bags from Cathay to Delta
 

Hi I am flying DXB-HKG-JFK then connecting to Delta from JFK-DCA. Is Cathay able to check bags from DXB to a different airline? Thanks or do I have to re checkin at Delta in JFK?

I think your bag needs to clear custom at JFK which you need to re-check anyway.

CX should be able to print the bag tag all the way to DCA (show them your DL PNR/ticket), but as ASUDan mentioned, you will have to claim them at JFK to clear customs. CX printing the bag tag all the way to DCA saves you the hassle of having to lug your checked bags from T7 to T2/3, since there is a bag recheck area for bags tagged to their final destination right outside customs.

Along the same lines, I have a trip from IAD to SIN, via YYZ and HKG coming up. United is the carrier on IAD to YYZ, CX has us YYZ to HKG.

We are planning to go into Toronto for dinner before CX829 (9 hour layover at YYZ), but not planning to stay overnight.

Can United check our bags all the way through to SIN? Or do the bags have to go through customs with us for our trip out to dinner?

virtually all of the major airlines [except wn] will check bags thru....your bags should go to the next flight at yyz because you are in transit....you will have to go thru immigration to go to the restaurant....good luck...

I have another question. I'll be flying into JFK on Cathay and from JFK to CMH on American Air. I bought the flights on a separate ticket. Do I need to pay for the check in luggage flying from JFK to CMH?
