According to my experience, they will not.

Is this because I'm GO and not DM? Some of the above posters who are DM mentioned that MPC did reset the year early upon their request.

Also, if I am GO with year end 31 Mar 2011, and I complete all my requal miles within Feb, will CX automatically renew my status (without my even asking) on/about 7 March giving me a new year of 7/8 March 2011 to 31 March 2012? Some others have mentioned that they do this if requal is achieved early.

As a last resort, if they refuse to reset me early, I will probably fly as a "nobody" without MPC number on record. I'm kind of loathe to do so, because I am flying HKG-YYZ on which I have 80% op-up record.

I strongly believe that you can call and ask MPC to reset your membership on Mar 2 to reset/renew your membership year. I don't see why they would treat GO differently.

When push comes to shove, you can remove your MPC # after checking in, so you won't miss the op-up scan!

Cathay just upgraded my mum from GR to SL at 25k club miles.. what a surprise :p
discovered that when I logged on to the Cathay web with her account..

(her original status-year ends in April, and scheduled LAX-HKG J next week)

If I call MPC hotline on 1 March 2011 and ask them to reset my membership year as I have already completed 60K miles, will they do that and give me a new GO membership year of 2 March 2011 to 31 March 2012? If so, my return trip to NA can credit into my new year.

For the flights after you have the 60K - do not provide them with your Marco Polo/Asia Miles number, or at check-in, ask them to remove it (in case you need online access or a chance for opUp). Then on April 1, submit a claim for the 17,000 miles - this will post to your new qualifying period. I don't know if MP approves or not of this, but a few years ago I was in that situation and I asked at the HK lounge if they could do this for me (I told exactly why) and they did this without a fuzz. Make sure you save your boarding passes and a printout of the e-ticket.

I think they've fixed the loophole now because last year when I tried to remove my FFP number it was not doable. The agent tried to use 0000000000 to replace (because she could only replace the FFP number, not remove, after check-in is done), but the miles still showed up on time. If you want your FFP number removed, you have to do that before OLCI.

My Gold year ends on 31 March and as of today I have 64K Club Miles so I'm already over what I need with no hope of reaching DM.

This month I plan to fly around 16K Club Miles so I called up MPC and asked them to reset my membership year and they said they could do it, and it should reflect on my website profile tomorrow, with miles reset to zero. New tier will be valid till 31 March 2012.

UPDATE: 2 hours after I made this request, my membership year is now showing "(01 Mar 2011-31 Mar 2012)" with miles reset to zero. :)

My membership year ends 31st March (DM) and I am already on 131K Club Miles so just called the MPC and checked the situation. The guy offered to reset my year from today but I will lose those 11K club miles that were over the 120K threshold :td:

This isn't a very good system but at least by reading this thread I have managed to get a reset and not lose any further miles.

Thanks!

Yes, knowing your travel pattern ahead and knowing how flexible MPC can be is really helpful to strategize your membership. Reading this place made me realize I can ask for extension, which I did, and now after my next trip I will make DM. I'm really looking forward to the "DM Package"... :D

We will swap places. You will be DM, but I will be GO after 31 March 2011.:( I would probably ask for extension of qualification, but I expect to be GO at least momentarily.
