Ticket class lowered on date change
Just got an email from MPC that my claims for China Eastern miles got rejected because it is R class. I didn't realized I flew R until this email because I bought the original ticket with M class (50% miles), but I did change the date with $100+ USD of penalty. I would assumed it would be the same class, but now I know my assumption is wrong.
Just wanted to ask is this standard practice in airline industry? On a changed date ticket they can lower your ticket class? |
Shouldn't be, unless it was a mistake by the rebooking agent. Check your original e-ticket. Was it part of a ticket that you bought from CX, for example JFK-HKG-PVG-HKG-JFK? If so, sometimes the short haul sector is booked in a different class to that of the long haul. Just speculating.

Was the ticket re-issued? Who handled the changes?

ETKT receipt is clear: CX long haul are L class, MU short-haul are M classes. I never buy tickets and classes that I can't earn miles. Double-checked, and it is M class on MU routes.
I called CX Reservation office in China for the handling. It sounds more and more like mishandling because I remember the conversation vividly. At first the agent over the phone says "you can't change" but when I say I just called earlier and asked for the price and another agent told me $100+USD penalty then she told me to "hold on", gone for 5+ minutes, and return with "Ok, I change for you" Sounds like an error in rebooking if it's not customary to lower a class on change dates. |
