CX loosing out

I dont fly Y class on any flight over 2 hrs.

I hate the old style biz class they use on some routes but charge the same price for new style. I just booked a round trip which takes me from Taiwan to Japan, then to Malaysia then to Australia all with other carriers as I cant risk flying in their old seats.

Today I need to go to UK this Sunday, I am DM but cannot be bothered with seat guarantee as it never works so I booked CX to HKG and BA biz class to LHR. ( no seats available with CX )

If they dont make it easier to make sure you can book and get what you pay for then I guess people like me will simply place the $$ with others.

The price difference between BA and CX in biz is huge but I dont care and frankly BA biz is way superior to CX as I dont need food and champagne I need sleep and no in flight announcements

Seat guarantee always works on J, C (on CX not KA), but never works on D, I. In fact, I feel that award availability (at least upgrade award) is higher than I availability. I think that is because CX makes more money on booking classes YB than DI.

Fair points....although if you have a little patience, I had success clearing the waitlist for I fare as DM ;). Not sure if that applies for the OP or not, as I only found out I cleared a few days before departure

You lose. BA is way inferior to CX in every sense.

I disagree. It is way inferior to what CX was 10 years ago, but the CX of today is several leagues below that of 10 years ago. F still just about justifies a leading position, but long haul J is, frankly, very poor compared to 10 years ago (on the food & wine particularly, and for the seat for people of above average size). Y is now just a bog-standard Y - nothing special about it at all.

For long haul J I would take BA over CX given equal pricing etc.

CX's pricing is always above BA and QF.

CX does worth the price before they starting to cut down the service of the cabin in these two years....

I find CX new F and J seats way better than 10 years ago. But BA J on upper deck is a class on its own, much better than CX J; and food/wine comparable.

J class on all CX long haul flights / aircraft have the new coffin class arrangement, if that is what you are asking.
