Like I said, I'm happy in Biz, heck, I'm happy to have a free ticket in economy, I just want to get what I pay for to the greatest extent possible.

I understand you viewpoint and you have a very tiny chance to talk your way into the nose.
You do not state which airline ticketed you. But you must understand that your ticket is issued in Biz on that segment. You did not "pay" (with miles or cash) for First on that segment. And the airline issuing the ticket is only charged by CX for a Biz fare (there is an internal pricing among airlines, even for awards). Even on paid RTW F tickets (AONE), the booking shows as a biz ticket for that segment.

That being said, you will be lucky if you get the 74A on that regional segment, rather than a regional aircraft with poor biz seats. For a 4hrs flight, the 74A Biz seat offer privacy, a great AVOD system (similar to the nose) with huge screen, the possibility to nap on a flat bed, and same food and service as in the nose.
I have done the route many times and I hope for you that they do not substitute equipment at the last minute (or a couple of days before).

Hello, in answer to your question, the HKG to DPS flights were run as a two-class flight. As the trip included the first class segments from JFK-HKG, they basically automatically changed my seat to the first class cabin at the airport. (This could not be done in advance, however). Service, as others pointed out was the same as business class, but still fantastic.

Thanks for the update! I think this answers the OPs questions - that yes, in some cases, holding an F ticket may assist you will getting into F class seating on a two class service.

You did not get F service though. You get standard C service in F seat.

I'm doing this trip myself next month so hopefully will get to sit in F... in F on the next flight out HKG-SFO

yes they made it clear biz class but who cares, there were a number of paid biz class people complaining about all the upgrades to business class cabin downstairs as well

[QUOTE=joelpat;13891526]I think Cathay should always ask themselves "what is the best service a US airline would give?" and then set that as their minimum service expectations.

I don't have anything meaningful to add to this discussion but to say, joelplat, that was very funny!

Upgrades

The route seems particularly busy at times. Before easter I was upgraded from Y to J at checkin then from J to F at the gate.

First ever double upgrade!

Not really double upgrade - there is bo F class, but just J in F cabin. The Y to J is an upgrade, but as it was done ahead, the reseating to the nose is done as a routine J seat reassignment for a DM.
