Upgrades on Cathay Pacific? AA Gold /oneworld Ruby
 

Hi All,

Never flew Cathay before - any chance/way to get upgraded on EWR-YVR-EWR Cathay flight? Any tips?

I would say your chances are slim to none existent if looking for some kind of free upgrade.

CX fly JFK-YVR-JFK, not EWR-YVR-EWR

You are right, I waas comparing Air-canada flight and that one is from EWR...

I see that there are no chances to get upraged and I will be stuck in Economy.. Only 2 options to get to YVR form New York - either AC or Cathay... So out of the two I will chose Cathay economy...

In general, AA upgrade instruments only work on AA metal. You can book award travel in Premium classes on AA partner airlines.

or you could fly JFK-SEA with AA and switch to AS from SEA-YVR. Then you might be able to snag an UG on JFK-SEA (it's on the slAAve ship I believe) but again, you might be better off taking CX (I'm not sure about the prices though)

or do JFK-DFW-YVR with AA

You could also fly JFK-SEA on AA and take a Horizon flight up to YVR.

In all honest as a Gold you have no chance at all. Won't happen.

Was waiting for someone to say this. People just see Gold and automatically assume its impossible.

How to upgrade :

JFK-YVR-JFK economy, AA gold, paid ticket
JFK-YVR-JFK economy, AA platinum, award ticket

So far it's been suggested that AA Gold can upgrade by transfering SPG points into Asia miles. Any by step instrucitons on how to do that?

What about AA Plat on award ticket - any way to upgrade?
