probably because of lack of premium demand? I’m just guessing.
hopefully next year these narrow bodies all go to UO where they belong. |

My 20 years' experience with CX (10 as DM) about birthday upgrade is this:
1) it has to be on the ACTUAL day of Birthday. A day, or even an hour, before or after doesn't work. 2) They were C to F for me, but I heard it was Y to C before Y+ and only Y to Y+ afterwards (from a co-worker). 3) If you have a connecting flight your connecting flight has to be the date of birthday as well, if not, no upgrade. it's a nice touch by CX, I do enjoy and missed those C to F upgrades on cross-Pacific flights. But now my work pays straight F (when available) so don't have to wait for my birthday anymore! I've been GO for 4 years and DM for 1 year, only ever scored 1 upgrade from Y to PEY in all my flights so far... I don't know if I've been incredibly unlucky or what! So I'm kind of looking forward to a birthday upgrade, ideally on the HND-HKG leg. Wondering if anyone has experience on connecting flights where the first flight is not CX? |

After arriving in HND, just go to CX lounge or transfer desk, show your boarding pass and kindly ask " It is my birthday. Is there any special message in my booking?" The agent will check for you. Please keep in mind that the birthday upgrade is not a "MUST". If the answer was no, then just enjoy the flight in Y. |
Got an upgrade last week on CX178 from W to J. It was actually the night before my bday. The agent at the gate called my name and gave me a new boarding pass and wished me happy bday. I was well taken care of during the flight.

Got an upgrade last month on CX315 on my birthday date from W to J, but the flight was full so it could also have been just an operational upgrade. No one said anything about my birthday, whether at the gate when giving me a new boarding pass, nor onboard. To be fair, one of the worst crew service I have had in years on CX... So not sure exactly what happened here.

A data point from me...CX GO flew on birthday and got upgraded to J from Y (economy essential fare). The plane has no PEY.
The upgrade happened automatically. Check in agent said happy birthday at the end of check in process. In case you wonder, I purposefully chose a 77P flight (504) |
Yeah this is a strict one-class upgrade. I was upgraded to PEY on an award Y ticket from BKK to SIN on the day itself. Good tip to choose a plane without PEY if you want to score a J upgrade.

So this birthday upgrade happens only on flights on exact day of birthday? Not possible 1 day before or after?
