It was actually noted on CXworld that exit row seats are on a first-come-first-served basis, regardless of status.

In my friends case the exit row was secured (as per cx terminology) and then taken away later.

Did your friend secure the seat before or after ticketing?

Is it possible that there was an A/C CHG?

Being with CX for so many years, its sad to see it deteriorate like this. I'm going to cry the day that they start charging us for headsets, food, AVOD... :(

Doesn't DM, GO, and SL still get them for free? I don't blame CX for charging exit rows, but yes I will lament the fact whey they are staring to be charging aisle seats, baggage, carry-ons, etc.

As long as it's truly first come first serve I'm ok with it. However, I really think they will flow around "internal procedures" that will reject loyalty passengers in hope that others will pay up the dough ($100.)

What's next? Paying aisle seats? Pay for each carry on baggage?

I will gladly pay the $100 - that is less than $8 per hour - on the LAX-HGK flight.
And about $1500 cheaper than buying a Business class seat! Exit row seats are worth it

I'm a BA Gold (OW Emerald) and looks like I will be taking CX Y around Asia quite a lot in the next 6-8 months. I checked the CX website and here:

http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_...tralegroomseat

it says

The Marco Polo Club Diamond, Gold and Silver, or oneworldŽ Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald members may reserve an Extra Legroom Seat free of charge.
Can I ask where one selects an exit row seat? On CX.com, or through a call centre?

Thanks! BL

I also would be curious about this. Thanks for posting the link. I was unaware of this and have forgone exit row seats on CX for several years as I thought there was a charge. I am EXP with AA.

If your ticket is issued with CX, it should be under manage my booking on the CX website. There is a seat map function online, where one can choose seats in advance of the flight including exit row seats. They will specifically marked on the map and are easy to spot.

if you booked with your frequent flyer number - AsiaMiles or MPO, just use this to log on, if you didnt just use your booking reference to log on.

Recently I have always had to call the e-service center (usually with a 20-30min hold ) to secure an exit row or bulkhead seat in advance. There used to be a charge for OW elites but that was waived within the last year.

You need to call them up to book into the exit row/extra-leg-room seat. Note that if you do so on the A330s, you'll find a huge block of lavatories right in front of you.

Also, you may be sitting next to a Ruby who has the same fee-free access as you do.
