Complimentry lounge access (letter)

CX sent me a letter telling me as a loyal SL I have earned a complimentary lounge access, with proof of this letter I can use CX lounges when I'm flying another airline or take a friend in with me.

?

Wow!! For real? Sounds like diamond privelege to me! Can you post the original statement up?

I am guessing the letter is for one-time use only. I.e. you surrender the letter upon use.

Yes, ONE TIME use only.

The original letter (relevant section, the letter is a full page long)

"As a token of our appreciation please accept this letter which offers access to either The Pier or The Wing Business Class Lounges at Hong Kong International Airport. It can be used by a companion who is travelling with you on Cathay Pacific, or by yourself when travelling on any airline other than Cathay Pacific"

Good call....to the OP, does this have any value to you, since I think you're already SL or GO anyway? Does it have an expiration?

As OP mentioned, he can use it when he's flying other airlines or he can give it to a guest, since OP has mentioned the invitation is not limited to only his use and can be for a companion

blah. A real gift would be complimentary upgrade to Biz. This means nothing to me since both my wife and I are CX SL. And when I'm in Asia I fly exclusively CX/KA anyway

Yea, so what? I still think this is pretty weak, I sometimes wonder who CX has working in marketing. Nice gesture, indeed, but it just hardly seems like anything. The lounges aren't as exciting as people make them out to be, especially just a regular business lounge. Even as a DM based in HKG I barely exercise my right to use the CX business lounge when flying other airlines (if I do it's only to run in, take newspapers and water, and leave)...he's already SL or GO (and I think based in the US), so yippie he can use the lame BA lounge in JFK for one time only when he's flying UA or whoever else uses that terminal there. I think for any genuine FF this is pointless, and even a low-frequency but high-revenue yielding pax (like someone who would pay for J or F when they do fly) wouldn't need lounge access anyway, regardless of airline. Just my two cents
