HSBC Red Hot Travel Special promo $1.23/mile 2 Dec-28 Feb

Rehash of the Jul-Aug overseas promo

https://www.redhotoffers.hsbc.com.hk...ial-promotion/

5 extra RC/$100 overseas spending
Max 400RC ($8,000 spend) (500RC ($10,000 spend) for Premier cardholders)

So for 500 spend you get 27RC --> 405 miles --> $1.23/mile

There are a few variations of the offer:

1. bhyuen http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=13480 #1 (and me also):

Offer 1: spend $4K in spending with sales slip, pay $250 tax --> earn 1RC, cap 100RC
Offer 2: spend $12K in spending with sales slip, pay tax of any amount, earn extra 100RC.

(so if you spend $12K inspending with sales slip and pay $25K tax you get 200RC)

2. skye 1. bhyuen http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=13480 #8:

Offer 1: spend $4K in spending with sales slip, pay $250 tax --> earn 1RC, cap 100RC

(no offer 2)

---

I'm not too keen on Offer 1, it's what I'll earn with CCB anyway and I can double eat their $200 coupon for 80K tax there. And repay them later. But I'm sure there are slackers among FTers who couldn't be bothered to get CCB CUP and happily pay all their hundreds of thousands of taxes with HSBC even though the promotion limit is $25,000 tax payment.

I hope to play Offer 2 with any Winter Stories promo coming up hopefully tonight or tomorrow.
Percy:

So I got offer 1 + 2 of hsbc and I do have ccb(a) dual currency octopus, however I do have international trips coming up which I can easily do hkd 8000 on that part (the rest 4000 should be piece of cake by moving dbs black spending over. Should I just be lazy and get the RC100 deal? (aka put all in hsbc without ccb trick)

Thank you Percysmith.

Why do these HSBC offers have to be so difficult to understand and work out?

I clicked on the HSBC page. Somehow it doesnt make sense - Mannings has an additional 2% (and then yet another 2% for weekends). How come the figures look the same for Times Square which does not have the 2 + 2 %?

Put spending on international trips on the HSBC.

Bill pill 8,000 on CCB cos they count tax payments towards CCB welcome offer.

Then have HSBC bill pay that.

If you manage to spend 12K overseas not only do you earn $1.23/mile on that you also knock out offer 2. HSBC confirmed tonight you can knock out offer 2 without offer 1 but you must pay at least $250 tax (i.e. earn 1RC) to qualify for offer 2.

Dear Percysmith,

I just registered for the 939rewards and my spending target is HKD 10,000. I am wondering whether cash advance counts towards this promotion?

Thanks,

Tim

If the cardholder is not in a group s/he earns 6%. HSBC may have made the promo too complex for their heartland C9 customers and left the field for us card jings.

hi percysmith, two questions

1. what are HSBC's FX fees on overseas charges? I try my best to avoid FX fees but this might make sense.

2. assuming one doesn't buy milk powder and diapers for a living, what does one do with HKD 17.5k in Mannings coupons? Heck, I am still sitting on HKD 300 in coupons from last year... If you resell the coupons at 90% value, you are effectively buying Asia Miles for HKD 0.069/mile (which arguably is a good rate for J/F redemptions), not including the value of your time.

1% on Unionpay (over Unionpay's rate which is <0.5% worse than Visa/MasterCard's) and 1.95% on Visas and Mastercards.

None
But HSBC probably didn't design the promo that way.

If I'm not maxing on Mannings coupon I can buy my LX100 camera with this in Broadway. But even this requires some manufactured spending-like tactics.

It costs $8,200
If you buy it in one go you'll bust your 200RC/week earn limit
Even if your whole registration group goes with you I don't think Broadway allows outright bill splitting.

But they do have coupons.
So you accumulate $2,500 Broadway coupon a week for three weeks and make a coupon+card pay in the fourth week.

You can also spend at other local merchants like M&S, which is now non-designated even in Times Square (used to be designated so I can load up on coupons for my next year shirt supply even if I don't want the shirt quite yet).

I sold last two promos' Mannings coupons at 95 so if I can achieve this price for promo I buy 25,500 miles for $875 or $0.0343/mile. Too bad there's only 25,500 mile earn quota for me.

For CCB 939
My target spend is One Thousand dollars only. Trying to think if it's some error.
Will probably call and double check with my confirmation number
I have never used this card before.

If I only find Times Square attractive, say, M & S, what is the weekly cap?

Also, is it just 8% for M & S even if I were in a group of 5?

Thank you.

mafai: not the first (see smttt http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...p?id=13509&p=6 #53 ). Confirm with CCB then go spend/manufacture $9,600...
