Country Inn & Suites Middleton, WI

What is your Club Carlson status?

Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)

Country Inn & Suites, Middleton, WI

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked a Studio Suite. I e-mailed the property before my stay, asking to be upgraded to a Whirlpool Suite because of my Gold Elite status. I received a reply indicating that would be fine, and had the Whirlpool Suite upon arrival!

Did you receive elite benefits?

Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes (asked for it before my stay)
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - No

How are the rooms?

Great - not a luxury hotel, but more than adequate. Whirlpool in the room was great!

What was good and what was bad?

Good:

Great recognition of Elite members - there was a sign at the Front Desk specifically recognizing all Elite members staying at the hotel that night. The complimentary upgrade was wonderful, too!

Also, I filled out a Satisfaction Survey after my stay, and received a personalized response from the property - another nice touch.

Bad:

Nothing.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

Definitely - used Cash & Points. I would return if in the Madison area again.

Park Plaza Bloomington, MN

What is your Club Carlson status?

Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)

Park Plaza, Bloomington, MN

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked a King Bed regular guest room. No upgrade.

Did you receive elite benefits?

Complimentary Room Upgrade - No
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - Yes (some nuts)

How are the rooms?

Not bad, but nothing special.

What was good and what was bad?

Good:

The rooms were clean and fine.

Also, I filled out a Satisfaction Survey after my stay, in which I indicated that I had not received an upgrade or any recognition of my Gold Status. I received an e-mail from the Front Office Manager apologizing for this, informing me that all suites were sold out when I was there, and offering to upgrade me on my next visit if I contacted her directly. Nice job in reaching out proactively to guests!

Bad:

No Elite upgrade or recognition. No complimentary breakfast.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

Yes, I used the Club Carlson 30% off promotion. May or may not return if in the area.

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson BLU Edwardian Hampshire, London UK

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard twin, received junior suite with extra bed even though hotel was full (probarly oversold standard rooms).
My travelling companions (on my booking) received standard rooms.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - No, but everybody gets a bootle of water each day

How are the rooms?
Decent bed. Standard rooms are small as expected in central London. Coffeemaker in the suite. 110 volt socket.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Location. Location. Location.
High score on the basics (cleanliness, a/c, service etc)
Friendly staff
Complimentary water in the rooms.
Bad:
Slow service in restaurants at times (even with few customers).

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Paid 205£+taxes per night. Great value with the suite upgrade, otherwise you really need to appreciated the location to justify the rates. It's a five star hotel, but it felt more like a really good four star hotel. Maybe.

Where did you stay?
Radisson Blu Scandinavia, Copenhagen
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, got Business Class (not much difference to standard)

Did you receive elite benefits?
Si, upgrade and welcome gift. Free breakfast again after arguing for it (our company rate does not include it, but the company will pay for it if you have breakfast. I every time have to convince them not to charge my company either. "But you're not paying yourself" is the answer 100% of the time.) Didn't ask/need early nor late checkin/out.
How are the rooms?
Decent, nothing luxurious. New TVs apparently.
What was good and what was bad?
Nothing particularly good or bad about this hotel, but I do not understand why CC does not have elite check-in/out lines. I know the lobby will tomorrow morning when I check out be swamped with air crews from Thai, Qatar and Gulf, meaning I have to reserve an extra 15 minutes.
Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
It works for business, but I don't think I would pay the amount of money from my own pocket.

Radisson Blu Edwardian Grafton, London, UK.

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked king, upgraded to corner suite

Did you receive elite benefits?

Room upgrade, complimentary drink (up to value of £12.50) in the bar, welcome card & cupcake in room! Didn't ask about early check-in / late check out.

How are the rooms?
Room size was excellent. A little bit worse for wear in places - some carpeting needing replaced.

What was good and what was bad?
Room was good. TV sound didn't work until I switched it on and off at the wall.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Would return on points, not sure if paying cash.

Gold
- Where did you stay?
Country Inn and Suites, Calabasas, CA, USA
- Were you happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
King Studio. Not sure an upgrade was available.
- Did you receive elite benefits?
Bag of treats with welcome letter.
- How are the rooms?
Clean and comfortable but in desperate need of renovation.
- What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Comfy bed, recliner and desk chair.
One of the bigger breakfast buffets, with better than average selection of hot items (waffles, eggs, bacon/sausage, potatoes, oatmeal) compared to other CI&S I've stayed.
Warm pool
Friendly staff
Responsive WiFi
Attractive lobby
Close (walk) to Old Town Calabasas.

Bad: Tired, dated, unappealing building and decor. (By far the least attractive CI&S I've stayed.)
Adjacent to highway.

- Value for money or Gold Points?
Paid $112/nt for big, comfortable room,
good, free b'fast & WiFi, free parking fit my budget very well.

Would you return? By myself? Yes. I don't think the more finicky members of my family would find the decor appealing.

Adjoining 2 Queen rooms/no upgrade possible

Nothing. Desk clerk barely acknowledged my existence, much less my status.
- How are the rooms?
Clean, small standard CI rooms
- What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Appeared relatively new building in a quiet location, near a mall with movie theatre, restaurants, Dutch Village.
Easy parking close to our room
Bad:
Indifferent staff, probably due to hotel full of families.
- Value for money or Gold Points?
Paid $89/room+$10/rollaway bed. Good value during peak vacation time.
Would you return? Yes

Friendly staff
Decent soundproofing (didn't hear major road outside or wedding guests inside)

Was less expensive than hotels closer to conference center. Memorable stay at an appealing place, so would return.

Average size suites

Pretty new building
Friendly staff
Pool
Decent buffet
Bad:
Even though they appeared pretty new, the pull-out sofa beds were perhaps the least comfortable we've ever experienced.

The price was less than the Hampton and equivalents in town. The location was good for us, so yes.

Radisson Blu, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

- What is your Club Carlson status? Gold
- Where did you stay? Radisson Blu, Addis Ababa, ET
- Were you happy with the hotel/stay? yes
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard room. Hotel was too full to offer upgrades
- Did you receive elite benefits?
Not sure the staff even knew anything about Club Carlson. I'm surprised I even got my points.
- How are the rooms?
Modern, appealing design, comfortable beds.
- What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Friendly staff
Appealing, comfortable room
Brand new hotel, modern amenities
Very good buffets
Modern, free shuttle bus to/from airport
Bad:
Hotel was full so felt crowded, especially trying to pull in/out of driveway.
No grounds or pool
Checking out was an affair (poor accounting, coordinating shuttle, etc)
- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Was as expensive as the Hilton or Sheraton without the amenities, although they were full when we booked so this was all that was available. I'd try for those Big 2 hotels, but would be fine returning.

Radisson Blu. Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

What is your Club Carlson status?

Concierge

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu, Edinburgh, Scotland UK

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Business Class room on points - upgraded to Classic Suite: three rooms - bedroom, large sitting room and bathroom

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Arrived early and stayed late
In-Room Welcome Gift - yes A plate of scottish tablet (a sort of fudge) was brought to my room about 30 mins later and I had two bottles of complimentary water

How are the rooms?
Spacious but furniture beginning to show its age - a refresh is planned the receptionist said.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Upgrade given. Excellent location half way up the Royal Mile between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace (The Queen's residence in Scotland). Haggis and Lorne sausage for breakfast - yummy.

Bad:
Nespresso machine broken - I find this happens a lot.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
I used gold points. 66,000 for business class room - but upgrade made it worth it.

Okay, but nothing special

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, received Standard room

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - No
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Late check out at 2pm
In-Room Welcome Gift - No

How are the rooms?
Reasonable size, however I was provided a twin room with the mirror removed from the wall, so the room did not look good (behind the mirror a wall with writing and lines all over it)
What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Nice style in the foyer, breakfast pretty good
Bad:
The hotel was not aware of my status when it was booked (it was through my corporate travel agent) - so no upgrades were available. The swimming pool area is somewhat tired. The shower facilities in the gym are not clean - tiles need a good scrub and the shower get dispensers are covered in mould.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Booked through corporate travel so only £79 B&B - so good value. Not sure I would return unless I knew I was getting an upgraded room.

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Park Inn By Radisson Cologne City-West, Germany
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Pretty good, especially for Park Inn.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, received Standard room

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - No
Early Check In/Late Check Out - not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - No

I however received free parking, free minibar, free breakfast!

How are the rooms?
Rooms are rather modern, Park Inn style. Not the largest you find out there, especially the bathrooms are rather small.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Good breakfast and free stuff like parking and free mini bar.
Bad:
I don't think they had a clue I was Concierge (only booked the same day) until I presented the card at check-in. In a place like that (certainly not booked over the weekend), I certainly expect an upgrade (and faster check-in process)

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Yes. It was 60 EUR / night.

- What is your Club Carlson status?

Gold

- Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country) Also put in the post title.

Radisson Blu, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes, overall a good experience.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Standard room, upgraded to business floor.

- Did you receive elite benefits?

I had asked for early check in as I was arriving in the morning. This was fine, but having gone through the entire check in process, I was told that early check in would be charged as one extra night - but as I was gold they would only charge 50%. After contacting customer services this was rectified and I could also check out late without extra charge. I also had to ask for an upgrade. No welcome gift.

- How are the rooms?

No complaints. Pretty standard business hotel. No visible difference between standard rooms and those on the business floor. The business floor had a lounge with free snacks and drinks though.

- What was good and what was bad?

It's a very new hotel, opened in January, I believe, so very clean and modern. Ok, but nothing special. Staff was very nice. Nothing bad to say, really.

- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

Good value for money, I would return.
