Trinidad and Tobago - should I go?
Based on mileage award availability and scheduling, I'm eyeballing Trinidad & Tobago as a potential destination for a week in October. Anyone been there? Any comments or feedback? I prefer going to Carribbean destinations where I can rent a nice Airbnb near the water, hang out at dive bars on the beach and explore on my own time with a rental car. Is this a good place for me to go?

Trinidad no. The capital city of Port of Spain is a very busy city with crazy traffic. I would not drive in POS. The sister island of Tobago is more what you are looking for.
Suggest you look into Grenada, St. Vincent or St. Lucia. I have rented cars and driven in all of these places without too much difficulty, and they are all much more relaxed than Trinidad.

Tobago is lovely, and exactly as you describe. There are no chain hotels/resorts (and the tourist types that entails). Driving was easy once you get over that people just stop for no reason. I also enjoyed driving in St.Lucia, Grenada was a bit more of a challenge because the roads are narrower.
All places drive on the left, make sure you get a car that matches the road, not an american-side drive car.
