Any tips for arrival into Punta Cana airport

Will be heading to PUJ next month and want to know if there are any tips to get through customs and immigration quickly? I will be arriving at 11:30 a.m. on a Saturday and have heard that it gets a little busy at this time of day.

Any advise is appreciated!

Get the VIP whisking service, search on the airport website

Whisking service is hit or miss. Buy your tourist card online before you leave and bring it with you. Saves you quite a bit of time and you're not paying for the VIP treatment that may or may not be worth it.

I'm agree with thalmuswatson, buy your tourist card online before you get there and bring it with you. I hope you'll enjoy a lot. Good Luck

what about flights?

we're trying to get to PUJ or LRM and we're coming from Dallas but I am not seeing any flights to LRM and those to PUJ cost a fortune for Aug 30-Sep 3. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

LRM options are extremely limited and this is an airport I would never consider. I would look into SDQ and paying a shuttle to the East if price is not bad. PUJ is the most expensive airport during US Holidays, as a lot of people tend to go there for the long weekend. SDQ has more business oriented and VFF passengers so prices are lower during long US weekends.

Update: no more tourist cards needed if on US-based flights. It's now included in your airfare.

Source: I just went there last week.

Yes, I can confirm this is true. However, those of us who are exempt from this tax now have to claim the taxes back to the Dominican Tax authority, which was not a very straight forward process at the beginning since it was not announced.

So anyone who is either Dominican Citizen, Resident, visa holder, or accredited diplomat should claim these taxes.
