Won 2 free tickets with United!
Hi there!
I hope you guys can help me, I recently won 2 R/T tickets to anywhere (as long as it is a United destination) in the Caribbean from the US. I have never been in the Caribbean and do not know many people that have traveled there either. More of a Europe/America traveler here
I need your help to get an idea of from those that have had more experience traveling to this destination. I am lucky since I do not have blacked out dates or airplane budget restrictions, so I can travel during peak season (thinking about going for 2 weeks in Xmas) without worrying about the hefty ticket price.
I could also go anywhere in the continental US, Canada, Alaska, the Caribbean or Mexico though. I want to profit the most and go the farthest or most expensive ticket possible
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! cheers! ^

Congrats! Fly to Colorado Springs!
I haven't been to all of the Caribbean, but my favorite two have been St. Maarten and Curacao. Really depends what you would like to do if given a beach vacation. Suntanning? Scuba? Clubbing? Casino? Sit on a couch and watch TV?

Hello fellow Coloradan! Since we live here, I am all about hiking, swimming, etc. Not at all interested in going to a Cannes-like experience. This means no clubbing, casino or suntanning/coach beach potato (the Gods already blessed me with an awesome tan since I was born ) I want to yes, scuba, snorkel, swim and chill at the beach but also do some hiking and culture. Mostly is to escape for a bit from the bitter CO winter
I was actually thinking about St. Maarten because of the french/dutch influence.
Which islands would you recommend?
Thanks for replying!

Remember that hotels and other prices will be at their highest at peak holiday time.
I like SXM in the Caribbean as far as UA destinations go. You can easily get to St. Bart's and Anguilla from there, too.
Antigua is beautiful, and a visit to Montserrat from there is interesting. St. Lucia is a spectacular island.
My favorite is Barbados, but UA doesn't fly there.
Have fun!

Barbados and Antigua are two of my favourite Caribbean islands.
On Antigua there's a great beach at Dickenson Bay with a Sandals but very close by and much more reasonable is this place which I'd recommend.

St Kitts & Nevis is a beautiful, small country and much less touristy than many of the other islands. UA appears to be launching service to there (SKB) from EWR in mid-December for the winter season.
If you want a distant island destination going the other way, you could always try Newfoundland (YYT) - although the scenery would be different

Spent the first few years of my life on St Maarten and have been back a few times. It's a good starter island for the Caribbean. Curacao and Barbados are my top picks. St Lucia is beautiful and good for an active/adventure seeker but is also very different from other caribbean islands because of how the island is laid out (very mountainous).
Other options I'd recommend would be Tulum in Mexico about 75 minutes south of Cancun. It's relaxing but also a lot of true Mexican culture if you like history that makes you walk/climb/swim. Or go to Liberia Costa Rica. The ecoadvanture there is great.

St Lucia is a fantastic place.
Or you can go to Trinidad during carnival. That is an unforgettable experience!
