Aruba Tips

Hello!

I'll be traveling to Aruba the second week of August and will be staying at the Hyatt Regency in a standard room.

I am worried about what the crowds will be like there. Is Aruba more like the "vegas" of the carribean as opposed to the laid back more sophisticated style of some of the other islands?

Would anyone recommend any other hotel to say at (the marriott?) or have any tips/ comments about the hyatt?

Are the beaches over crowded?

Any other tips/ comments/ suggestions?

Thanks!

And since this query is specific to one geographic region, we'll shift this over to the Caribbean forum for further discussion. Thanks! /JY1024, TravelBuzz co-moderator

NOT LIKE VEGAS BUT NOT SOPHISTICATED, BUT VERY LAID BACK, YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE BEACH, PROBABLY BEST BEACH IN ARUBA. BEACH BETTER THAN AT MARRIOTT. ROOMS AT h NOT VERY LARGE, BUT NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM. PLENTY OF GOOD RESTAURANTS ON ISLAND. NO GREAT BUYS IN STORES (UNLESS YOU LIKE DUTCH CHEESES). IF I KNOW MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR CAN OFFER FURTHER ADVICE

I really like the Hyatt - we have a TS on Eagle Beach so I usually go to the casino down there but....they had (not sure if it is still the same one) a band that plays in the casino (over the bar) part of the week and I would go up there to play Let It Ride. I like the tables there and they serve any drink you ask for - including high end. We always went to the Hyatt brunch on Sunday at least once on our trips - usually the only meal of the day and not just tourists - locals love it too!

What are the standard rooms like?

Is the beach unbearably crowded? Are the crowds loud and rowdy or quiet and laid back?

Thanks

Bon Dia! You will love Aruba. People are friendly and attentive, drinks are refreshing, and the water couldn't be any better. I personally prefer Eagle beach, where the often pictured fofoti trees are. So if you have a chance, just walk along the water's edge. It's not a bad walk at all - maybe a 20/25 minute walk?? There are several restaurants along the water and the sunset cannot be matched. The bus is easy to catch as well and very inexpensive. I'm not sure how the Hyatt works their beach. Where I stayed, some people were up as early as 6am to stake claim to their umbrella. There was never a problem for those who liked to sleep in, though. There were always plenty of umbrellas/huts to go around, but Eagle beach is larger than Palm beach. As always, your stay will be determined by what you like to do. Relax and do nothing? Aruba is the place. See the sights and be tour the island? Very cool things to see and do. ...or a little of both. Have a fabulous stay!!
