Three new 767s will come into service during the month of July. Tail #649 will be configured with 25 J class seats and 180 Y class and begin flying July 2. Tails #653 and #654 will enter service with 36 J and 184 Y class seats, and will begin flying July 3 and July 31, respectively.

Looks like 653 and 654 will be configured like AC's 767-200s (i.e., the domestic business class? Are most of CP's 767s on international routes these days?

Do you know where they were sourced from?

What type 200 or 300 ?

I wonder what the interiors will look like, if they are short term leases then they probably will be left in whoever's cabin they were in service with before. If they are more long term leases then I guess it would make sense to fit the AC interior.

Any ideas?. I know that some of the last batch of leased CDN 767 300's, the ones that were to start replacing the DC-10's came from Asiana. I saw them when they were delivered on the ramp at YVR.

From employee email June 20th (more 767'2 coming):

"B767S JOIN THE FLEET
Three Boeing 767s joined Canadian’s fleet roster this month, including one that goes into service today. Tail 650 from TACA
International Airlines will be serving as flight 982 from Vancouver to Toronto. Two other B767s, Tails 651 and 652, from Air New Zealand and SAS respectively, came into the schedule on June 5 and June 17. 651 is flying YVR-YYZ, then YVR-LHR. Tail 652 is flying the
Montreal-Toronto route. Two more B767s are expected in service in July."

From employee email June 30th:

THREE NEW B767S ENTER SERVICE
Three new 767s will come into service during the month of July. Tail #649 will be configured with 25 J class seats and 180 Y class and begin flying July 2. Tails #653 and #654 will enter service with 36 J and 184 Y class seats, and will begin flying July 3 and July 31, respectively.

Although these emails do not state the fact, the 767's are all 300 series. I also believe that the interiors have been converted to CP colours. Tail 649, as the only exception, will not be retrofitted as it is on a short term lease. As to origin of 649, 653, and 652 I'll dig for this info. One of them came from Asiana but I don't know which tail.

25J/180Y is the standard CP 767-300, right?

36J/184Y is a new configuration for continental flights (i.e., YYZ-YVR)?

How are 650, 651 & 652 configured?

terenz:

You are correct on your numbers for the standard seating of CP 767's. The 36J/184Y arrangment is due to a different interior configuration. If you are familiar with the interior of the 25/280 configuration then you should be able to follow what I am saying.

Talking about the 36/184 only: There are two lavs in J/C (one forward of the entry door and one just aft of it). The centre galley complex is much smaller and the two mid cabin lavs are just past the second set of doors, in line with the mid-galley (across the aisles). No overwing exit windows on this aircraft but 8 entry doors instead of 4 (the 3rd set are smaller though. There are four more lavs in the back forward of the rear galley.

Your guess is right on the money. These larger capacity planes will be restricted to certain routes...for now. It's going to be a little tighter in seat pitch than people are used to despite the changes I've mentioned.

652 is in 36/184 configuration. 650 and 651 will be 25/180. Oops, 652 is the short term leased a/c I mistakenly stated in my earlier post as tail 649. My apologies.

I already flew on one of the 'short term leased planes' that had CP on the outside, but AC seating on the inside, 36J - and I was VERY disappointed, as I usually try and change my flights to accomodate the CP 767 as they have inseat power, wider seats, more legroom and better seat pitch. The end of our national luxury of decent business class travel is very near!

The 767-300 was always an easy pick for a good J class seat, I will have to look out for A330's now. I already do not enjoy the 767 200's, the 200 ER is OK much the same as the 300, but the newly configured 767's seem to be taking some of the luxury out of the 300's.

Just my opinion..Flygirl do you know how long the leases are for?

I was the CP994 YVR-YYZ JUne 29th, and the 767 was using the 36 J configuration. I found the seating to be terrible. Much prefer the 1-2-2 seats with power. I usually try to get the CP 25J 767 flight for YVR-YYZ mostly flight #990 (1:30pm), but that flight has been cut from the AC/CP lineup.

I fly the YYZ-YVR-YXY route pretty frequently, is there still good J class seatings planes left for the monday morning YYZ-YVR and friday afternoon YVR-YYZ route? The 8:15 CP flight uses 747 and 8:45 AC105 flight uses A330, which has pretty good J class seatings. But I am concern about the friday YVR-YYZ, it seems most are 767 planes.

Other than tail 652 which is leased until Labour Day weekend, I don't know the length of the contracts but I'll try and find out for you. Rumour is that the other two oddball canfigurations will be converted to the standard after the summer. I will also try and substantiate that.

Fly girl, if my memory is correct isn't AC doing the overhalls "D" checks of SAS 767's in Montreal.

I am wondering if this 767 is one of the pre overhualed SAS 767's. That they have borrowed for the interim.

Air New Zealand seems to be switching it's fleet , I know that Virgin picked up some of it's 747 200's.

Thanks for the info, very enlightening!

CP 993 on June 25 was an apparently newly aquired 767. Only one projection screen at the front of the J cabin, so you pretty much needed binoculars to see it from the rear, no phones, no Empower outlets, and no air vents. 1-2-2 seating, however.

I finally got confirmation for the answer to the terms of the wet leases. Tails 652 and 653 are both short term (6 month) leases to expired in October. The rest of the tails are long term for an indefinite period of time which could be years. These 767's will be absorbed into AC fleet when the integration is completed.
