Finanacial Post reports this morning that most of Canadian Airline's senior execs left the carrier yesterday as AC completes its merger plans after being successful in court earlier this week. Among those leaving are Doug Carty (brother of AA CEO, Don) head finance man, Doug Casey (planning senior VP), Rod Dewar, Brock Friesen, Keith Pope, Barry Rempel and Marssall Wilmot (all VPs). Two other finance VPs, David Ball and Mark Williams, leave later this month or next.

Staying on are Mary Jordan (senior VP customer service and ops), Steve Markey (senior VP corporate and government relations), Frances Fiorillo (VP human resources), Ken Goosen (VP maintenance and engineering) and Kewin Howlett (VP labour relations).

The executives may be disappearing, but here is the new lineup. Directly from Robert Milton: I am pleased to announce the appointment of the following executives to positions in the integrated Air Canada effective July 1, 2000.

Commercial:
Lise Fournel, Executive Vice President, Commercial. Reporting to Lise will be:
- Danielle Poudrette, Vice President, Marketing. Danielle, in addition to her current responsibilities will provide overall leadership to the Marketing Communications/Brand Management, Product Design and Market Research functions
- Claude Morin, Vice President, Cargo
- Marc Rosenberg, Vice President, Sales & Product Distribution
- TBD, Vice President, International.
In addition, Lise will have oversight of Air Canada's Regional Airlines.

Customer Service:
Eileen McCoy, Executive Vice President, Customer Service. Reporting to Eileen will be:
- Ted D'Arcy, Vice President, In-Flight Service
- Liz Graham, Vice President, Airports
Also reporting to Eileen will be Call Centres, Customer Service Development & Planning, as well as a newly created Customer
Experience and Recovery division.

Corporate Development & Strategy:
Calin Rovinescu, Executive Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy. Reporting to Calin will be:
- Doug Port, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Government Relations
- Steve Markey, formerly Senior Vice President Corporate and Government Affairs at Canadian is now Vice President, Government Relations & Regulatory Affairs (reporting to Doug Port)
- Paul Letourneau, Vice President & Corporate Secretary
- Sue Welscheid, Vice President, People
- Alice Keung, Vice President, Information Technology & Chief Information Officer
- John Baker, Vice President & General Counsel
- Ross MacCormack, Vice President, Alliances & International Affairs.
Also reporting to Calin will be the functions of Loyalty Management, Business Ventures, E-commerce and Travel Services.

Finance:
Rob Peterson, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. Reporting to Rob will be:
- Paul Garratt, Vice President, Financial Planning & Controller.
Also reporting to Rob will be the following functions: Treasury, Aircraft Programs, Corporate Real Estate, Audit, Fuel Administration, Pension Investments and non-Technical Operations related Purchasing (Technical Operations purchasing functions remain within Technical Operations).

Operations:
- Robin Wohnsigl, Senior Vice President, Technical Operations
- Capt. Rob Giguere, Senior Vice President, Flight Operations
- Capt. Ron Clark, Vice President, Corporate Safety & Environment
- Bill Bredt, Vice President, System Operations Control
- Paul Brotto, President and CEO of Canadian Airlines, will assume a senior executive position within Air Canada upon completion of his assignment at Canadian Airlines.
- Rupert Duchesne, Senior Vice President & Chief Integration Executive.

Transitional roles

The following executives from Canadian Airlines will play a transitional role in their respective fields.
- Haydn Acheson, Vice President, Flight Operations, will assume the role of Vice President, Operations acting as Chief Operations Manager for Canadian Airlines during the transition as long as there are separate operating certificates
- Kevin Howlett, Vice President, Labour Relations, will report to Sue Welscheid, Vice President, People during the transition. In September, he will join Air Canada Regional as Vice President, Labour Relations.

Does this make Calgary a branch plant of Montreal now? Seems that all corporate functions have been combined for the two carriers (with existing AC execs), and that only operational (i.e. flight ops, etc.) remain separated with Cdn execs over line managers. Pretty much a shell of an operation left at Cdn, eh?

A Flygirl

As long as there are two valid but separate company certificates for operation, there will be two separate ops., inflight, maintenance and other flight related departments running as per MOT requirment and procedure. The deadline for eliminating this duplication has been announced as Mar/01. In the interim, management will still be top heavy but partly because there is no legal way to consolidate these departments other than through due legal process following the registration of a fully integrated airline entity.
