AA cut off date?
 

Does anybody knows when AA will be retiring from CP+? Do they still have a long term agreement between them?

At the present time, AA will remain a partner with Cdn+ and points earned on AA flights will still count towards elite status. This may change at any moment, but AA is not among the oneworld or other partners dropping out between now and September as a result of AC acquistion. AA may be dropped once Cdn+ is merged into Aeroplan, and that may come at some point after September if the bankrupcy settlements work their way through the courts as AC hopes.

Press Release from AC's website yesterday:

AIR CANADA AND CANADIAN AIRLINES TERMINATE AGREEMENT ON CODESHARE RELATIONSHIP WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES

"The termination of codesharing will be subject to a 30-day notice period, and will take effect no later than October 1, 2000."

"The termination will be implemented in conjunction with other commercial initiatives resulting in no negative effect on levels of service provided to customers by the airlines"

Thay also annouced that they will bring Delta on board right after AA goes out to add more code share flights between Canada and USA.
It means use your old stickers asap because there won't be a lot of opportunities left to use them when flying using reduced rates...

DL is still not confirmed as a partner for CP, just AC. Which means DL flights will only earn Aeroplan miles, not Cdn+ points. Or it may mean that AC intends to fold Cdn+ into Aeroplan by the end of September.

Yes you're right I had a second look on the press release. CP is not specified.

But the flight is AC, why CP+ members couldn't get their milleage out of these flights. (flight numbers restriction?)

CP has reached an agreement with AA to wind down the CP/AA codeshare. The codeshare will be completely discontinued on 24Jun. More information will be available on 31May.

Does this mean that if we are flying business/first class on AA that we do not get access to the Admirals Lounge, even if we are CP Gold or Platinum?

On AC, they were announcing Canadian as the newest Star member on the way to Ottawa Friday but not on the way back. Jumped the gun, made a mistake (did it on two flights)?

IsleTraveller, here is what was advised last Friday. Empress Lounge access ends on and after June 1, 2000 for all AA Admiral Club members. As well, this means that Canadian Plus members will no longer have access to Admiral Clubs in the US or Internationally. No more details at this time.

AA has never given admittance to their Admiral Clubs to J or F passengers domestically (includes Canada and Mexico), so these clubs will require annual membership to gain access from 25 June on...

Lounge reciprocity does end May 31. However, AA will sell CP members Admirals Club membership at a price based on their CP Status:

USD$400 - Basic members
USD$300 - Club
USD$275 - Gold
USD$200 - Executive Platinum

Ken, any idea what AA will do in places like YVR, where the CP lounge doubled as the Admirals Club? (BTW, I could never figure out why AA members kept being refused entry -- were they basic or AA Gold members trying to get in with Admirals Club memberships and flying economy, or what?).

Surely AA will put their own metal into YVR to make up for the loss of CP codeshares. Will they take over the CP lounge, or is CP (i.e. AC) hanging onto that as well? It was always so crowded I can't imagine AC giving it up until the terminal is expanded.

I don't expect it to matter to me, but I like to plan ahead.

Don't know about AA in YVR, and I'm not sure AA does yet either. They have not replaced the YVR-ORD flights that the used to codeshare on CP. And in a strange development, effective June 15 they will be discontinuing first class service in to/out of YVR. You'll get the same service you now get, but it will be called business, for about $3 less. Problem is, you'd only get a 25% COS bonus instead of 50%. AA service to other Canadian cities, such as Calgary and Toronto, remains unchanged. (This is not published anywhere -- I simply discovered it by accident. I'll be changing my next Dallas trip slightly to work in the extra 2 segments at the beginning of the trip instead of the end.)

Throwing darts, I'd guess oneworld has something up their sleeve, but that's about as far into speculation as you can get, without drugs. With all the new extra gate space in the transborder terminal, and the increased availability of interational gates due to the reduced number of AC/CP flights, there's now lot's of room to expand. (BTW, check out the new trans-border area, especially when returning to Canada. The area is astounding with running creeks, waterfalls, ponds with "wildlife," recorded sounds of the wild, etc. Quite amazing.)

Admirals Club members should have been allowed to use the YVR CP lounge. But I can't see AC giving up the CP space. As the two lounges are immediately adjacent, I imagine they will soon simply knock out the adjoining wall, and make it one large lounge. Both are currently crowded during peak times. I haven't yet seen enough of the new trans-border area to determine if there is any room for new foreign carrier lounges.

While we lose AAdmirals' Club access, will be still be able to use CP upgrade stickers on AA flights? I want to burn up my 2000 stickers.
