I saw this article today in the National Post. It is the first time I have actually seen a date for CP to leave oneworld. (June 1). I do not know how long the link will be active for.

Well, the date is not completely unexpected, but as usual, there are very few definite answers given.
Can we still earn CPlus points on code-share flights operated by oneworld partners (e.g. CP points on CP-designated, but QF- or CX- operated flights?) When exactly do all the codeshare agreements end? Codesharing with BA ends at end of this month, codeshare with AA lasts several more years at least; how about codeshares with the other oneworld airlines? I called CP reservations after seeing the article and the agent did not even know about the June 1 date!! "Oh, we haven't heard anything about that yet." He was surprised when I told him that it was in the newspaper. FewMiles.. |
Hard to gauge whether this is reliable or not. The information is presented as backgrounder, rather than a quote from Brotto.
Three months lead time, with no public notice yet seems to me precipitous. I would think that OW FF's would have received advice on this. Hmmm... |
That's the date that I am expecting as Lan Chile and Aer Lingus will join OW on June 1, and as you know when Iberia and Finnair joined OW, they had to reprint all the OW signs in everywhere. So if CP leaves and Lan Chile, Aer Lingus join on the same date, they can just simply make all the new signs without the CP logo on it and change all of them on June 1.
Luckily we can still redeem our points on other OW flights for another year. Do u think we will be given a hard time by the other OW memebers or by Air Milton if we really do so? |
I was told Tuesday that CP will leave oneworld on July 7, and that all arrangements with AA would also terminate on that same date. No reciprocal lounge access or upgrades, and no codeshares either, as well. From a source I believe to be reliable, and an industry employee.

I suspect your source is exaggerating.
The AC/AA deal over AA's equity stake specifically provided for the extension of the AA/CP relationship (esp. with respect to codeshares). While lounge access and upgrades could come off the table, codeshares are unlikely. Since AA wants ongoing access to the AC/CP network, it is more cost-effective for them to do it on a reciprocal basis, to diminish the up front cash cost of doing so. As for earning on code shares, I think the rule has always been that you earn miles for codeshares, no matter who they are operated by. |
It would certainly assist those of us that shuttle back and forth from LGA-YYZ to know what is going to happen with AA/CP codeshares. I fly probably 40 segments annually between the two but obtain the vast majority of my miles from long haul trips to the Asia Pacific region. I have actually considered leaving oneworld for the Star alliance just based upon my northbound/southbound travel even though I have been w/AA forever.
