Kevin E. Benson out, Paul E. Brotto in!

CALGARY, Feb. 29 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of Canadian Airlines
Corporation has today accepted the resignation of Kevin E. Benson as President
and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Airlines Corporation and of Canadian
Airlines Ltd., effective March 1, 2000. Mr. Benson will remain a director of
Canadian Airlines Corporation. He is succeeded as President and Chief
Executive Officer by Paul E. Brotto, who joined Canadian Airlines on executive
secondment from Air Canada on January 19, 2000 as Executive Vice President and
Chief Operating Officer.
Paul Brotto most recently held the position at Air Canada of Senior Vice
President, Business Development, with overall responsibility for revenue
enhancing and cost reducing initiatives. During his 28 year career at Air
Canada, Mr. Brotto has held a number of senior positions in finance, marketing
and sales including the positions of Vice President, Finance & Treasury, Vice
President Marketing and President and CEO of Air Canada Vacations.
Kevin Benson joined Canadian as Chief Financial Officer in 1995 and was
appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in 1996.
``Kevin's input and advice as we have moved through the integration
process of the two airlines have been invaluable to me and I look forward to
his continued support as a Board Member as we go forward,'' said Robert
Milton, President and CEO, Air Canada.
Mr. Benson commented today on the vast changes that have occurred in the
industry, and the great opportunities ahead. ``Change has been a dominant
factor in employees' lives in the past few weeks and the speed of change has
been nothing short of amazing. That so much has been accomplished is a
tribute to every employee at both airlines,'' he said.
``I am very proud to have been president for the past four years,'' he
added, specifically noting that Canadian Airlines' employees response to
uncertainty was to ``turn up service levels still further, to such an extent
that our most critical customers, the frequent flyers, had no option but to
vote Canadian the very best'', referencing the airline's recent Official
Airline Guide 1999 North American Airline of the Year Award.
Benson concluded that excellent progress is being made with the
operational and financial restructuring of Canadian and feels confident
handing the leadership of the airline to Paul Brotto.

Well, one less thing Canadi>n about the new Canadi>n. So anyone sending letters off to Canadi>n, take note of the new CEO!

I myself will be addressing all letters to AC's Milton, as I have no status and nothing to really complain about with respect to the CP side of things.

Kevin must have seen this coming. In fact I am surprised that he remained at the helm of CP for so long!
