I agree with AC*AE, that Canadian300 or Air Transat will be the ones offering some transcon competition to AC/CP. They both already operate an equivilent-to-scheduled daily service between YYZ-YVR-YYC-YYC-LHR. Canada3000 is focusing on routes to the South Pacific.

Both have more infrastructure than WestJet, and Transat currently offers a Front Cabin with bigger seat option which could easily become a J-class cabin. Canada3000 could add such a cabin, or follow UA's lead by putting greater legroom in the first few rows for business flyers. (They presently don't offer advance seat selection, but for a dozen or so seats up front they could start.) As for FF program, they might align with NW or DL, or maybe Air Miles -- which according to news stories may be closed out of AC-owned CP and need a new domestic airline to offer seats on.

Neither could handle the demands of a major daily schedule offering enough departures a day to appeal to most business flyers, but would forge a niche with small business types for whom getting across the country is important, but who can adapt to a less flexible schedule.

Time will tell.
